Description:

We currently have a vacancy for a skilled mechanical technician with the ability to detail design, manufacture, and modify a wide range of complex research and teaching equipment. The many disciplines within Chemistry present a range of interesting and challenging design problems for our engineers. Some areas of interest within the Department are High Pressure Systems, Ultra High Vacuum, Low and High temperature work and Upper Atmosphere environments, making the work varied and interesting especially when combining more than one of the above.

Duties will include machining components on a wide range of standard and Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machine tools. Some detail design experience, together with good working knowledge of plastics and ceramics as well as ferrous and non-ferrous materials will greatly aid the manufacturing process.

  • When fully trained this is a grade 4 role so the salary will be £26,642 - £30,505.

The successful candidate will have successfully completed an Engineering Level 3 Machinists Apprenticeship course and have a recognised period of practical training but they must be willing to study for a HNC or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
