JOB OVERVIEW
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and forward-thinking Senior Psychologist, Nurse, Social worker, Occupational Therapist or eligible Medical Professional wanting to train to become a Mental Health Act Approved Clinician (AC).
The successful applicant will work within or across our inpatient, community and specially commissioned services, with placements being allocated based upon training and service need.

Job Summary:
- Assesses and treats own complex caseload of patients/clients
- Provides expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues
- Undertakes research in a specialist area
- Provides education and training to other staff, students
- Ensures the maintenance of clinical excellence · Responsible for clinical governance, policy, service development; provides expert advice on practice.
- To undertake the role of Trainee Approved Clinician for an identified client group with formal AC status retained by the medical Responsible Clinician.
- To develop the eight core competencies of an Approved Clinician (AC), accessing support from medical and non-medical RC/AC’s in different directorates and organisations; in order to broaden clinical experience and develop a Portfolio of evidence for Regional Panel approval for AC status within two years of commencing role
Responsibilities:
MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB
The CFT Multi-profession Approved Clinician training process involves the following stages which the trainee is expected to complete within 24 months:
Stage 1 – Academic
The trainee will be expected to successfully complete the postgraduate certificate in Mental Health law. Candidates will also need to attend a statutory two day Approved Clinician training course workshop facilitated by Winterhead Ltd (SEAP), or other approved training providers.
Stage 2 – Competency Development
Through supervised clinical practice, training placements and action learning sets the successful trainee will develop the core clinical and operation competencies required to practice as an AC
Stage 3 – Portfolio Development
Trainees will be required to evidence the development of the AC competencies within a portfolio which when completed towards the end of training will be submitted for final scrutiny by regional independent approvals panel. If their portfolio is approved, they will then be able to lawfully practice as a Mental Health Act Approved or Responsible Clinician within the Trust.

The training process is expected to take 2 years and during this time candidates will receive a salary banded at 8b (FTE) via a 24-month contract amendment. If the trainee is medical professional, then different terms may apply.
To be eligible for training you must have line manger support, have an eligible professional qualification, be in a senior clinical role with a significant amount of post qualification experience working with people with mental health difficulties.
