Job Title: Trainee Quantity Surveyor
Location: Tipton based
Salary: To £32k depending on experience, and benefits
An exciting new opportunity for a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join our team of Civil Engineers running our biggest clean water and waste water projects. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you’ll work closely with operational managers and subcontractors across several projects, providing commercial support on site and preparing for client/contractor meetings You’ll be based from our hub in Tipton, working on projects for our biggest customers in the water industry These projects range from £250k to £5m plus so you’ll be used to working alongside our teams of engineers and working with varied clients and project managers.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Handover and Contract Review: Ensure a thorough understanding of contract documents and pre-commencement budgets, raising any concerns or anomalies early, and completing the handover process accurately.
  • Project Planning and Subcontractor Coordination: Support the Operations Team by providing cost projections and identifying subcontractors, arranging competitive quotations, and finalizing subcontracts efficiently.
  • Valuations and Financial Management: Prepare, submit, and negotiate project valuations, including subcontractor accounts and variations, ensuring timely payments and accurate financial documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Cost Control and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of costs, timesheets, and invoices, presenting monthly cost reports to management and ensuring all financial activities are meticulously controlled and based on competitive pricing.
  • Contract Compliance and Final Accounts: Ensure compliance with all contractual terms, including submission and agreement of final accounts and retention payments, while protecting the company from contractual risks.
  • Claims, Profitability, and Commercial Processes: Manage claims for time extensions and cost reimbursements, support profit margin improvement, and adhere to commercial processes to meet both company and client objectives effectively.
