Description:
The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Ontario is a provincial association, committed to improving services and support for individuals living with mental illnesses and addictions issues, and to the promotion of mental health in Ontario.
JOB SUMMARY
CMHA Ontario is seeking an experienced Program Outreach Coordinator & Trainer, Resilient Minds for a full-time special funded temporary contract position until June 30, 2025, with the possibility of renewal.
Resilient Minds (RM) is a national program designed to build the psychological strength and resiliency of firefighters. It is an evidence-based, peer-to-peer skill-building program which focuses on how to use protective strategies for firefighters’ own mental health but also how to support their peers and positively interact with distressed citizens. Resilient Minds is currently expanding to other first responder groups.
The incumbent will report to the Interim Program Manager, Resilient Minds and will deliver Resilient Minds training to first responders, including firefighters, and other frontline workers across Ontario, as well as providing coordination and admin support to Resilient Minds’ Interim Program Manager. The position is based in Toronto.
The ideal candidate is comfortable operating under their own initiative and has experience with training delivery and program coordination. A bilingual candidate, as well as experience working as a first responder or with first responder/frontline workers, are strong assets.
SKILL-BASED COMPETENCIES
- Must have 3-5 years’ working experience with mental health and addiction and psychological trauma.
- Must have experience facilitating training sessions and/or delivering workshops on the topics of mental health and addiction and psychological trauma in a virtual and in-person environment. Experience working with first responders is a strong asset.
- University degree or college diploma in healthcare, sciences, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to effectively deliver content and engage participants.
- Experience in project management or coordination.
- Well-developed administrative and organizational skills.
- Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills.
- Certification or training in suicide intervention (ASIST), Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), or ICISF Crisis Intervention (CISM).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM software.
- G Class driver’s license required.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver Resilient Minds courses and train-the-trainer workshops to fire departments and other first responders across Ontario, according to expectations to ensure effective and appropriate training delivery.
- Respond to client and training requests.
- Outreach to first responder departments, halls, and associations to increase referrals into Resilient Minds training.
- Provide general administrative support, including meeting coordination, mailing coordination, and other projects as needed.
- Track training events and participants; report training activities to the RM Interim Program Manager.
- Work with the Interim Program Manager to position the program within the Ontario context and consider approaches to better meet the evolving mental health needs within Ontario’s first responder community.
- Prepare and deliver program presentations for various stakeholders.
- Manage and keep up to date a stakeholder database (Salesforce) that contains key contact and course information, and leverage this database for ongoing promotions, engagement, and program evaluation.
- Assist in curriculum development based on feedback from client and participant evaluations.
- Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of communications strategies, materials, activities, and educational resources.
- Participate in a national Community of Practice for Resilient Minds Instructor Trainers.
- Partner with Communications to share training activity updates with stakeholders.
- Attend regular meetings of the RM and CMHA Ontario teams.
