JOB SUMMARY

The Office for Health Equity and Inclusion (OHEI) develops mechanisms for inclusion, diversity and cultural sensitivity among faculty, staff, and learners at Michigan Medicine. We strive to create an impact on these stakeholders that will reverberate in Michigan Medicine?s patient care and community outreach initiatives. The team is expanding to focus on research, dissemination of information, and policy guidance around the issues of diversity, inclusion, health, and equity. We also serve current and prospective health sciences students of all ages, to strengthen the pathway for diverse students to access this competitive and growing field.
The Training & Facilitation team supports workforce diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts across the academic medical center. The team works closely with Michigan Medicine Human Resources, Organizational Learning, and other campus training and facilitation staff. The Training & Facilitation Manager will provide day-to-day management of all team members. And oversee the DEI and health equity education, professional development, and training programs for all Michigan Medicine faculty, staff, and learners.
As appropriate, this leader may work with team members to provide consultative support to Michigan Medicine units working to improve their culture and climate. The ideal leader will have an interest in policy and structural change and be excited to partner with committees and leaders throughout the university focused on continuously improving our culture and climate.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Ph.D, Ed.D, MD or similar terminal degree required.
  • Supervisory experience is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in program management and DEI.
  • Progressively responsible leadership experience and demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Adherence to high standards of teamwork by demonstrating adaptability, flexibility, and consistently sharing information and resources with others.
  • Strategic thinking, working in a fast-paced environment, experience with change management or launching a new line of business or service.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong project management skills to handle complex projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to clearly articulate and reinforce training strategies and the Michigan Medicine plan for DEI.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; strong writing, editing and proofreading abilities.
  • Demonstrated awareness and understanding of multiple facets of diversity: cultural, ethnic, racial, religious, gender, educational, age, sexual orientation, linguistic, professional, and other.

Responsibilities:

  • Create educational strategies to foster an open and affirming culture for all faculty, staff, and learners with a special focus on providing useful guidance and support to managers implementing culture change.
  • Provides leadership and professional expertise in the creation, facilitation, and evaluation of professional development and learning opportunities for faculty, staff and learners. Works collaboratively with key stakeholders and content experts to achieve these goals.
  • Manages all OHEI training and facilitation team members and may manage or direct volunteer facilitators. This includes development and coordination of operational objectives and assignments.
  • Work closely with Senior Director to ensure projects and program objectives are completed and to coordinate hiring, recommendations for promotion, performance coaching, disciplinary actions, and training and development.
  • Works closely with Senior Direct and Associate Vice President to implement learning opportunities.
  • Works independently to develop project management plans to deliver professional development opportunities to stakeholders using a deep knowledge of administrative requirements of program or initiative launch.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders, leaders and influencers ? both internal and external ? to advance Michigan Medicine?s DEI initiatives and deliver a plan for culture change.
  • Serve as a consultant, mentor and advisor for DEI programs.
  • Attend university campus related DEI education meetings in furtherance of these duties.
  • Experience with data-driven decision-making in a large, complex policy driven organization with the ability to form strategic recommendations that impact the team?s future state.
  • The manager will also work with other senior unit staff to assist with budgeting, controlling costs, planning, scheduling, and procedural changes for the unit.
