Description:

Performs translation of written materials from English to Spanish (and Spanish to English) to ensure comprehension of information by patients, families, and other community/interested parties.

Responsibilities:

  • Under supervision of Language Services Supervisor, translates, edits and proofreads a variety of materials for hospital wide use from routine to complex including, but not limited to medical information, pamphlets, documents, signage, public relations materials, and records from English to Spanish (and Spanish to English) to ensure availability to the Spanish community.
  • Ensures accuracy of content utilizing reference materials and electronic resources to research, verify, and check the most effective way to communicate a written source message in target language.
  • Prioritizes materials for translation to ensure timely availability of information for use.
  • Follows protocols for translated PCH branding and glossaries.
  • Communicates with author to ensure understanding of the English document.
  • Investigates content, medium of communication, situational content, and audience of translated materials.
  • Suggests culturally appropriate adjustments in the English text to facilitate better understanding of translated materials.
  • Recommends distribution of displayed information to facilitate understanding by a Spanish reading audience.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in utilizing the hospital`s designated translation and project management software, ensuring accurate and timely translation of medical documents from Spanish to English and vice versa.
  • Supports the flow of documents through the translation process and software; may take the lead on projects as assigned.
  • Per protocol, tracks and archives documents to provide support for translation as assigned.
  • Acts as a resource to the hospital, as needed, providing insight and education on the Spanish language and culture.
  • Communicates with new customers to help them understand the processes of translation
  • Works with author, Communications, Emily Center, Forms Committee or Research to provide quality translation in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Provides on-call supervision of translation service as needed.
  • May include discharges, medical summaries brought by patients in Spanish to Emergency Room, during high volume season. May also include infection updates.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
