Description:

Engineering - Leuven | Just now
Seeing is believing, but measuring is knowing.
At imec, we embrace the motto, ‘Embracing a better life,’ by driving innovations in nanoelectronics. Our cutting-edge chips power high-tech solutions that enhance healthcare, ensure safer transportation, foster sustainable energy, and more. Simply put, a better world starts with the technology we create in our cleanroom.
In the TEM team of the material characterization and analysis department at imec, we harness an array of specialized physical and chemical methods to support our advanced semiconductor device development. As a TEM Specialist, you will be at the forefront of this innovation, executing and analysing TEM requests that characterize our CMORE (MEMS, actuators, sensors…) and Core (Logic, Memory, Interconnect, 3D…) technologies.
What you will do
As a TEM development engineer you will be a part of the team that provides a detail-oriented TEM service at imec. You will prepare TEM samples, using focused ion beam (FIB) resulting in a thin specimen, observe these in the transmission electron microscope, analyze the samples based on scientific questions that are linked to the development of our advanced pilot line. You will analyze, the results and generate a comprehensive report that allows the process teams to use these observations to advance their development work.
After an extensive training period you will gradually get involved in projects to optimize the TEM service (operationally and technically) and will learn more novel TEM techniques to further support the learning cycles of imec.

Diverse Range of Tasks:

  • Become an expert in SEM/TEM inspections, staying up to date with the current evolutions of the tools, focusing particularly on semiconductor materials.
  • You analyse and execute TEM requests for new process developments in collaboration with the internal or external customer.
  • You prepare TEM samples using various methods with FIB/SEM dual beam tools.
  • You define which TEM techniques are needed, execute and compose comprehensive reports of the results.
  • You are responsible for high quality and efficient first-time right execution.
  • You connect with the Hardware and Engineering teams to minimize operational department issues.
  • You transfer processes from the R&D stage to the pilot production line in collaboration with researchers and TEM process engineers or assistants.
  • You collaboratively achieve the targets set within the department, ensuring quality delivery on time.
  • You detect and address potential efficiency and quality risks.

What we do for you
We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.
We are committed to being an inclusive employer and proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process; not only with words but also with tangible actions. Through imec.academy, ’our corporate university’, we actively invest in your development to further your technical and personal growth.
We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of a market appropriate salary with many fringe benefits.
Who you are
We welcome applications both from experienced engineers as well as fresh graduates. Please include a motivation letter in your application.

Minimum requirements:

  • You have preferably, a Master’s degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry and related fields, or hands-on experience with automated metrology and SEM/TEM inspections within the semiconductor industry.
  • You have excellent communication skills, are a team player attitude, and have a strong eagerness to learn.
  • You are hands-on and willing to work in a lab on a daily basis.
  • You are comfortable working in a team environment, but at the same time you can work autonomously, take initiative and are capable to plan and organize your own work.
  • Willingness to work in early and late shift regimes, including one weekend per month.
  • Strong planning, prioritizing, multitasking abilities, and a hands-on approach.
  • Proficiency in report writing, strong analytical skills, and a keen interest in understanding new semiconductor materials and advanced structures.
  • You are eager to work in a highly competitive field and a multicultural environment.

Additional skills considered as an asset:

  • TEM experience in a semiconductor environment or other production environment.
  • Programming knowledge in advanced software packages (Python, MATLAB, etc.)

IMEC and its affiliates will not accept unsolicited resumes from any source other than directly from a candidate. IMEC will consider unsolicited referrals and/or resumes submitted by vendors such as search firms, staffing agencies, professional recruiters, fee-based referral services and recruiting agencies (hereafter “Agency”) to have been referred by the Agency free of charge. IMEC will not pay a fee to any Agency that does not have a prior written agreement with IMEC, validated by its HR department, in place regarding a specific job opening and allowing to submit resumes.
