SSU is recruiting for a Transmissions Support Engineer (ISE) who will be responsible for performing system design and development engineering functions to enhance and support existing systems offering essential support to the 160th Signal Brigade or subordinate Battalions’ AOR. The focus of this role is on the engineering of information systems, encompassing a broad spectrum of technologies such as radio, fiber optics, cable plant, technical control, local and wide area networks, command and control, space communications, record data, switched data/voice, video computer, office automation, automation security, network security, physical security systems, perimeter security, network and systems management and control, and video teleconferencing. The engineer will play a crucial role in optimizing and advancing these systems to ensure their efficiency, security, and seamless integration within the broader information technology framework. Position available DEC 2024.
Locations: Camp Arifjan, Kuwait

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Expertise in at least one (1) of the following areas:
  • Voice Systems (e.g., Meridian SL-100, RHN, MDN, ADN, AT&T Partner key system).
  • Data Systems (e.g., routers, hubs, switches, TCP/IP protocols, IEEE 802-3, routing protocols, intrusion detection systems, firewalls, MPLS, JRSS, VRFs).
  • Network Operations Center (e.g., trouble ticket reporting systems, network management systems, help desk services).
  • Certifications and Proficiency:
  • Possess IAT Level II or advanced certification per DoDM 8140.03 and maintain it throughout the contract.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Office applications, and AUTOCAD.
  • Proficient with tools used for network monitoring and diagnostics.
  • Proficient with terminal applications using Secure Shell (SSH), SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP), Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP), etc.
  • Information Systems Engineering Experience:
  • Demonstrate information systems engineering experience within the Department of Defense Information Network (DODIN) information technologies.
  • Translate functional requirements and performance objectives into design criteria and specifications for individual elements and subsystems.
  • Technical Expertise:
  • Possess experience in:
  • Satellite communication systems.
  • Support racks, fiber, Interconnect Facilities (ICFs), Network Equipment Technologies (NET), multiplexers, voice transcoders.
  • Tactical/strategic interfaces, switching communications, NIPRNET, SIPRNET, LANs, WANs, MPLS, VRFs.
  • Outside cable plant transmission, radio propagation (LOS), VOIP, digital microwave (M/W) equipment operation.
  • Radio systems engineering, baseband multiplexers, cable and Television and Video Teleconferencing.
  • Support for cable television channels such as American Forces Network (AFN) and a command channel for public announcements.

Responsibilities:

  • Review SDP for configuration changes and provide written technical recommendations to the government.
  • Recommend acceptance of SDP for implementation.
  • Report on the status of configuration changes via written updates and briefs to the Government.
  • Provide recommendations for configurations to remediate performance gaps.


    • Integrate with warfighter operational plans, focusing on assigned telecommunications and information systems in Southwest and Central Asia theater of operations.

    • Track telecommunications services to meet operational requirements.
    • Identify and resolve operational needs and problems.
    • Optimize resources and provide intense support for emergency or urgent telecommunications requirements.
    • Provide planning recommendations, coordination, and monitoring of exercises.
    • Assure achievement of system objectives, responsive implementation, and satisfactory operation.
    • Analyze plans and orders of subordinate units to ensure Brigade or Battalions’ objectives and standards are met.
    • Coordinate synchronized operations with other units and staff sections.
    • Track and coordinate multiple operations and projects spanning the Area of Responsibility (AOR).
    • Provide planning and coordinating recommendations for formal and informal site surveys for projects requiring Engineering support.
    • Conduct pre and post site surveys of Engineering and Installation (E&I) projects and provide a written report of findings and engineering guidance.
    • Prepare and recommend Courses of Action (COAs) to the S-3 and staff on operation and project-related issues.
    • Provide updates on current and future operations and projects, including time and resources available to the Brigade or Battalions’ staff.
    • Prepare and present reports and briefings to the Brigade or Battalions’ staff, including S3 administrative and operational briefing slides.
    • Collect, consolidate, and prepare Readiness data for the Brigade or Battalions’ staff.
    • Collect and consolidate training data for the Brigade or Battalions’ staff.
    • Provide training status reports and briefings.
    • Synchronize training resources.
    • Prepare Serious Incident Reports (SIRs) to be reviewed by the S-3 and forwarded to higher commands.
    • Track and disseminate to command and archive all Army Actions (ALARACT).
    • Draft military orders.
