HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

You will make a difference by leading and managing the Public Transport Team, in order to deliver the highway authority functions relating to public transport. You will act as the link, liaising with internal teams within the Council and the West of England Combined Authority (WECA) and other key stakeholders, including Bus Operators, other Councils and wider stakeholders.
In this strategic role you will represent South Gloucestershire Council on its highway authority functions with the aim of improving public transport over the long term, working to deliver plans and initiatives that span several years.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • It is essential that you hold a professional qualification in a related field ( MCILT) or a degree in a related subject or have significant relevant specialist experience.
  • You will have a detailed understanding of public transport operations and the ability to develop and maintain effective working partnerships with external organisations.
  • We require you to have significant and detailed knowledge of the legislation and regulations relevant to public transport operations.
  • You must demonstrate a proven track record of implementing change and innovation with experience of successful negotiation with representatives of other public or private businesses, organisations, community groups and members of the public.
  • It is key that you have experience of applying strategic awareness to problem solving and decision making to drive change management and commercial awareness.
  • We require you to have a good understanding of local government processes.

Responsibilities:

  • You will represent the Council as the lead advisor on public transport matters in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Liaising with the West of England Combined Authority, you will support the delivery of high-level plans and initiatives to improve the provision of public transport in line with the aspirations set out in the Local Transport Plan and associated Bus Strategy.
  • Working with bus operators and external partners, you will support the effective delivery of transport services to all sectors of the community to encourage greater use of public transport.
  • You will support the negotiation of public transport contributions from new developments for bus services and/or infrastructure.
  • In the role you will develop and secure support for proposals to improve the public transport offer and will be responsible for drafting and presenting reports to inform decisions.
