We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Transport Manager based at our site in Basingstoke (RG24 8BY).
Reporting to the Site Manager, you will take full accountability for managing the transport operations within a busy site, ensuring the operation runs smoothly and efficiently in line with the changing demands and needs of the customer. Additionally, you will have accountability for ensuring consistent KPI performance and all transport compliance and employee relations processes are being followed. A national/international CPC qualification is an essential prerequisite.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need very strong people management and development skills and the ability to comply consistently with Transport legislation. If you are organized, have extensive transport experience, and can manage, motivate, and develop people, this role could be perfect for you.
The shift patterns for this role are between 06:00 and 18:00 (based on business needs), Monday to Friday.

Main responsibilities:

  • Organise the effective use of the available resources, vehicles and people to meet operational targets as required as agreed with customers
  • Ensuring all deliveries are covered daily and exceeding the customer service expected by the customer(s)
  • Ensure all goods are handled in the correct manner to minimize damage and follow manual handling techniques to prevent injury and harm
  • Resolving any issues or concerns that may impact customer delivery in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Carry out any other reasonable requests to support the effective running of the Transport Operation, including HR and HS&E tasks and / or External Customer visits.
  • Ensure any concerns, issues, or variances to instructions are immediately communicated to the team and, when relevant, appropriate action is taken as soon as possible
  • Representing the company or daily, weekly, and quarterly reviews and providing the Contract Manager with regular updates
  • Ensure all Company procedures are adhered to including HR procedures, standards of behaviour, supporting with investigations and disciplinary hearings as necessary
  • Ensure consistent 5S compliance – Sort, Straighten, Sanitise, Standardise, Sustain
  • Ensure that the Driver’s WTD is monitored, Tachograph infringements and vehicle compliance are maintained to the company’s policy
  • Ensure all drivers are briefed correctly and driving assessments are completed in a timely manner and standards are maintained
  • Work with central functions to maintain accurate training information and records.
  • Participating in H&S monitoring, reviewing processes and ensuring employees are trained

Key Skills:

  • National / International CPC Qualification is essential
  • Previous Transport Management of running a medium sized distribution network essential
  • MHE licence is an advantage but not essential
  • LGV Class 2 licence and advantage but not essential
  • Good attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft packages and e-mail
  • Ability to prioritise workload, effectively managing multiple tasks
  • Ability to work as part of a team, to deadlines and prioritise
