JOB OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Transport Manager, this is a challenging and interesting role and will suit an individual with drive, determination and enthusiasm. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to really grow and expand within the role.
In the role, you will ensure the continued delivery of a timely and accurate service to all customers, involving the effective use of resources and manpower available within the timescales required. Planning and coordinating the day to day running of the general haulage fleet vehicles and trailers whilst adhering to all Health and safety regulations.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Experience as a Transport Planner or in a similar role
  • Must have general haulage planning experience
  • Confident communicator
  • A strong knowledge of the principles of transport operations and planning functions
  • Good organiser
  • Computer literate with good experience in using Microsoft Office especially Excel
  • Be a team player and motivator who can work on their own initiative
  • Good numerical and analytical skills with strong attention to detail
  • Driven by continual improvement and high personal standards

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the production of an optimum Transport plan in a time critical environment, constantly review and maintain in line with operational changes
  • Ensure all jobs are entered on to the Transport Management System correctly, providing accurate routing information to ensure delivery times are met
  • Negotiating with subcontractors, to achieve the required margin for each job
  • Undertake all activities in line with KPI requirements and SLA’s
  • Work closely with the Transport team to ensure Transport hours are planned and used effectively
  • Collation of weekly finance statistics
  • Assist in the production of reports for Senior Management to support KPI’s
  • Work closely with key operational partners including other departments, depots and customer locations.
  • Other Site administration as and when required.
  • Creating Peak plans for events such as Easter and Christmas
  • Learning other site-based plans to greater your knowledge of the network and support other depots
  • Execute the daily operational plan, working on own initiative to deliver changes and flexibility
  • Making back up plans to cover changes in all circumstances
  • Maximise efficiencies whilst reducing costs
