ALL ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Group Logistics Director, in this brand-new role, you will ensure the day-to-day organisation of customer deliveries and internal stock movements, finding ways to improve customer satisfaction and maintain high levels of service. Working with Barrett Steel Drivers and sites across our UK network of 29 sites, to ensure smooth and efficient plans that our drivers & transport teams can follow, whilst playing an instrumental role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective running of the transport operation, promoting a culture of being safe and inclusive whilst delivering results.

Specific tasks include:

  • Provide, build, and implement optimal transport plans across all Barrett Steel Group Network, capturing all customer and operational requirements.
  • Develop and optimize inter depot movements, maintaining fleet utilization.
  • Manage and understand Working Time Directive Compliance and comply with all Transport legislation.
  • Manage all customer locations and associated information to support Network Planning (Delivery windows/restrictions, vehicle restrictions, delivery point requirements).
  • Cover loads with Sub-Contractors and negotiate rates when required.
  • Utilise the wider Barrett Steel Group network, working with other depots to ensure we are planning as efficiently and effectively as possible.
  • Review and understand vehicle and associated costs/revenue reports and have the ability to produce them.
  • Forge excellent working relationships with Stakeholders.
  • Responsible for explaining efficiencies and plans to site management teams.
  • Dealing with customers’ orders and building them into an efficient plan, minimising empty running and maximising profitability whilst still meeting customers agreed KPI targets.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR THE ROLE:

  • Experience in a multi-site, Transport Planning Role with experience of working in a busy Transport office
  • Knowledge of Drivers Hours, Tachograph and WTD legislation plus all Health & Safety standards
  • Good geographical knowledge of the UK
  • Good standard of education and IT literate
  • Ability to analyse data to help produce an optimised transport planning solution.
  • A Can-Do, Positive attitude with the ability and initiative to constantly revisit the transport plan and ensure the plan is as efficient and achievable as possible whilst still maintaining targeted vehicle earnings and customer service.
