We are looking for an experienced and hands on Transport Shift Manager to join a busy and dedicated team at Yusen Logistics. The role will primarily be based at Grange Park, Northampton (NN4 5FB) but may also include supporting our Upper Heyford depot in Northampton (NN7 4DE).
Reporting to the Platform Operations Manager, you will take full accountability for the management of the daytime Transport operations, overseeing Drivers, Transport Operators and Transport Clerks. You will ensure that the Transport operation runs smoothly and efficiently in line with the changing demands and needs of the customer. Additionally, you will have accountability for monitoring consistent KPI performance, and ensuring that all transport legislation, compliance and employee relations processes are being followed.
To be successful in this role you’ll have very strong people management and development skills and be able to consistently apply HR standards specifically around recruitment, absence management, performance, conduct, safety and service. If you have transport managerial experience, with the ability to motivate and develop people, this role could be perfect for you.
Your working hours for this role will be between 06:00-14:30 Monday to Friday.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for day-to-day operational activities
  • Overseeing the effective running of operations to ensure they are managed according to customer and company expectations
  • Ensure that any issues with meeting expectations are communicated in a timely manner
  • Continually review measures of productivity and challenge resource plans to optimise productivity and performance
  • Provide accurate routine and ad-hoc reports measuring performance against established KPI’s and other business performance information
  • Establish and maintain good customer relationships, acting as a key customer contact for day-to-day operations
  • Ensure that professional and effective communication is maintained at all times
  • Identify and recommend appropriate resolutions to customer queries
  • Managing all company procedures, including absence, holiday, performance, behaviour, supporting with investigations and disciplinary hearings

  • Proven leadership qualities to enable you to manage all aspects of a busy transport department
