The Team:
Cundall’s Transportation team pride ourselves on our exemplary track record of providing first-class transportation planning design, advice and input on a wide variety of projects throughout the UK and our international offices. Our clients include local authorities and government organisations, private developers, house builders, housing associations and education providers.

Our team works across a variety of sectors with private and public sector clients, delivering a broad range of services to public and private sector clients, including:

  • Masterplanning;
  • Development planning, including the production of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Delivery and Servicing Plans, Car Park Management Plan, Construction Management/Logistic Plans;
  • Active Travel Schemes;
  • Healthy Street Assessment;
  • Car parking assessments and design;
  • Preliminary access design;
  • Traffic Modelling;
  • Microsimulation Modelling, including vehicles and pedestrian modelling.

The Role:
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and experienced Transportation Consultant to join our team. Based in our Newcastle/ Edinburgh offices, you will play a key role in the provision of innovative and effective transportation advice to support some of the most exciting projects in the UK and internationally.
Closely collaborating with the Director of Transportation and the rest of the transportation team, the successful candidate will take responsibility for driving forward business development with new and existing client relationships especially in the local market, but also UK wide, and will lead in the delivery of local international transportation projects.
This role offers the successful applicant managerial and leadership responsibility for the development of a local transportation team, as well as wider general regional transportation disciplinary responsibilities.
The role will be best suited to technically-orientated transportation professionals /engineers as well as very ambitious team leaders who have experience in the operational and client-focusing aspects of the role.
The Skills:
A chartered civil engineer/transportation professional (CEng or equivalent), with a degree in civil engineering or transport planning and a significant practical experience in the transportation sector within a multi-disciplinary international consultancy environment.

For this role we require candidates to have:

  • Proven background in work-winning, including portfolio of clients, and wider business development acumen and outcomes.
  • Proven experience in leading projects and interacting and developing good relationships with clients, local authorities and other regulatory bodies.
  • Solid experience in understanding client briefs, developing fee proposals and effectively delivering project work.
  • Wide experience in development-related transport analysis and assessment, providing transportation support at feasibility and planning stages and for discharging planning conditions, including previous experience of working on small, medium and large sizes projects.
  • Proficiency in producing various transportation reports (i.e. Transport Statement/Assessment, Travel Plan, Delivery and Servicing Plan, Construction Logistic management Plan, etc), preliminary site access/junction design, and traffic modelling.
  • Proficiency in use of specialist software including AutoCAD, Junction 10, LinSig, Trics and TEMPro, besides use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience in Active Travel schemes and Behavioural Change opportunities is desirable.
  • Awareness of GIS, microsimulation modelling and S38/S278 is required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Excellent presentation and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to present information in detail to Directors, senior management team, staff and clients;
  • High degree of competence in project management and commercial awareness.
  • Mentoring & coaching skills
  • Self-motivation.
  • Chartered Membership of a relevant professional institution (CIHT, CILT, TPS, ICE etc).

Although not a requirement, experience of acting as an Expert Witness would be beneficial.
