Description:
The Permit Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the safety and procedures of transporting oversized and specialized
loads for the company. Duties include researching, applying, obtaining, and quoting permits and pilot drivers
required for specified loads. This position requires excellent communication skills, and effective time management.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience within the transportation industry, with a focus on over dimensional freight is an asset; however, Q-Line will train the right candidate.
Any related post-secondary training is considered an asset.
Attention to detail is required, with a strong level of accuracy.
Ability to multi-task and learn new procedures and systems.
Must be capable of working in a fast-paced working environment, with changing priorities.
Ability to read and comprehend detailed forms, such as state and provincial rules and regulations documents.
Effective time management skills, with the ability to handle situations of high urgency.
Technical ability to learn and use transportation software.
Ability to use discretion and judgment in interpreting rules and guidelines.
Able to be available for on-call shift on a rotation basis
Responsibilities:
Research, co-ordinate, and apply for transportation permits to fulfill load requirements.
Oversee new shipment orders to determine when and where permits are required.
Review commodity drawings and measurements for obtaining permits.
Complete routing for all orders which require permits.
Complete and submit permit forms and approvals to provinces and states.
Ensure adherence to provincial, state, and federal provisions for specialized loads.
Maintain communication with dispatch department regarding load delays, permit progress and other issues
pertaining to permits.
Communicate, explain, and advise regarding permits to drivers.
Assist the sales department with quoting rates for required permits and pilot drivers for specified loads.
Arrange and co-ordinate pilot drivers and route surveys when required.
Maintain complex spreadsheets for tracking and quoting of permit costs.
Other duties may be assigned.
