Description:

Summary: The primary purpose of this position is to safely operate switcher, and to unload and move trailers as needed.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Checks trailer availability and scheduling requirements.
  • Starts trailers for cooling.
  • Maintains a current CDL-A license.
  • Carries jugs to the dock.
  • Unloads cases of milk crates or pallets of corrugated material from trailers and keeps empty trailers available at dock for loading.
  • Switches trailers out for corrugated and milk shipping as need.
  • Checks temperature of loaded milk trailers hourly.
  • Responsible for taking trailers to shop, calling for maintenance, or calling for replacement trailers as needed.
  • Takes switcher and trailers to refueling station.
  • Relieves caseroom associates for breaks.
  • Adapts to various situations and adjusts to shifting priorities.
  • Meets company established attendance policy, and performs essential job functions throughout the established scheduled and extended work hours, as well as during inclement weather conditions, when demand requires.
  • Abides by all company mandated safety/health rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Follows all Good Manufacturing Practice requirements and complies with all local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred;. Requires common intelligence, such as the ability to use simple gauges or instruments that require no interpretation. Must follow oral instructions and occasionally use simple writing or arithmetic skills. Equivalent to a high school education and/or dairy or food processing experience. Applicant must be 18 years of age and maintain a current CDL-A license.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to other associates of the organization.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide in units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of VLM time system.
