TRANSPORTATION TECHNOLOGIST

Currently, the City of Belleville has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, strategic, and dynamic individual to join our Transportation and Operations Services Department as a Transportation Technologist.

EDUCATION/SPECIALIZED TRAINING/SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a two (2) or three (3) year Community College Diploma Program in Civil Engineering or Related Field.
- Class G driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract.
Preferred Qualifications:
- C.E.T or C.Tech designation from the Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Ontario.
- Knowledge of traffic data collection, processing, and projection techniques.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum one (1) year experience in data analysis in municipal government or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of traffic data software.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant provincial legislation, regulations, guidelines, procedures and standards, including the Highway Traffic Act, Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Ontario Traffic Manuals, and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Computer literacy with proficiency using MS Office software and proficiency in the application of specialized traffic and municipal software.
Responsibilities:
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Reporting to Supervisors within the Transportation & Operations Department, the Transportation Technologist is responsible for asset management data, data analysis, and traffic data analysis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support asset management through accurate data input, ensuring consistency with organizational standards.
- Analyze and interpret traffic study data using specialized software to optimize transportation network performance and improve traffic flow solutions.
- Install and maintain traffic counting hardware in the field, including radar devices, loop counters, and speed radar signs.
- Interpret engineering plans and drawings, correlating them to driver behavior, traffic operations, and roadway safety considerations.
- Ensure compliance with provincial traffic and transportation legislation by interpreting and applying relevant sections of laws and regulations.
- Collect and input data to support Asset Management and GIS initiatives, ensuring seamless integration and functionality across systems.
- Perform data collection for Minimum Maintenance Standards (MMS) compliance auditing to verify adherence to regulatory standards.
