THE OPPORTUNITY

Glencore Copper is seeking a Treasury Assistant to be responsible for accounting, finance, and treasury processes and procedures. The successful candidate will ensure efficient Procure-to-Pay (P2P) processing within the designated area of the transactional services environment to meet financial objectives and delegations of authority. Key responsibilities include updating cash bank positions and transaction/payment approvals to facilitate the timely delivery of high-volume, high-value goods, products, and services to end-users.

YOUR TRAINING, SKILLS & EXPERTISE CHECKLIST:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (or equivalent) with specialization in Accounting and/or Finance.
  • Minimum Qualification required (specific Tertiary qualification if relevant).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role with exposure and experience in entry-level accounting/financial functions.
  • Experience in a mining company while not a requirement would be an advantage.
  • Technical (accounting) knowledge and skills.
  • Multi-tasking and excellent management of time and priorities is essential.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills that work effectively within team and different audiences.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive, committed and highly motivated.

Responsibilities:

  • Action procedures as required within accounting, financial and/or treasury conventions and timelines for efficient P2P processing within the transactional services environment to meet financial objectives, delegations of authority, to update cash bank position, and transaction approvals to enable delivery of high volume / high value goods, products and services.
  • Action procedures as required by ensuring that accounting, financial or treasury efforts, activities and outputs meet all compliance, accounting/financial codes, internal process and other requirements within the P2P value chain to support the timeous delivery of products and services to end-user/s.
  • Operate strictly within the framework of robust financial and financial forecasting disciplines to meet transactional requirements within contractual and other deadlines for products and/or services to be supplied.
  • Responsible to ensure efficiencies and effectiveness within financial/treasury sphere of influence by actioning and initiating or advising as required in line with financial objectives in support of the Company’s objectives.
  • Execute cash management transactional functions for all copper entities in copper South America, including industrial assets, corporate offices and other copper entities involved in the dividend management.
  • Operate within treasury back-office procedures (relating specifically to bank reconciliations; bank journals) by ing accounting and procedural conventions and processes, and allocating posts to enterprise system (SAP, and other systems).
  • Prepare, review and/or simulate journals by ing accounting/financial conventions, posting as appropriate in relevant module/s of enterprise system (SAP), and review cost centres, general ledger loading, cash balances for accuracy, earmarking for where they are intended and accordingly advising approvers.
  • Prepare, review and maintain bank reconciliations formats to confirm expenditures balance with money leaving accounts by ing standard accounting practices and conventions.
  • Maintain and reconcile bank statements, using and accessing online banking systems as appropriate, and initiating processes / mechanisms for accounts to be cleared to enable timeous payments to suppliers so as not to compromise on-time delivery of products, goods and services.
  • Maintain effective communication with local banks to perform day by day treasury back office functions as local overnight investment, bank transactions coordination, Interest Rate Quotes, manual payments, bank reconciliations.
