Description:

As a Trends writer, you will be responsible for keeping on top of search trends and producing timely, relevant articles to keep us at the forefront of trending news. You will know what audiences are searching for, the questions they want answered, and the content they care about most, and will respond by creating articles which enhance our brands.
You will be responsible for sourcing, imagining, writing and sometimes packaging articles relating to a range of topics including celebrity, science, film and television, depending on the current events, trends and viral content which you will use to inform and improve your work.
The preferred candidate would have a background in search-oriented writing and be locked in to search and social across the biggest stories of the day to recognise trending topics and topics with high audience potential. You will be responsible for measuring the success of articles and using that knowledge to continually improve and target wider audiences.
You will utilise creativity to deliver content which sets us apart from other publishers, drawing on trending content on Google, social media sites, interviews, podcasts, YouTube videos and trending news to help do so.
Articles will need to be produced at speed with quality to keep up with the ever-changing online landscape and to maximise audience potential.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE WE’D LIKE YOU TO HAVE

  • Proven SEO knowledge/experience, including understanding and usage of SEO tools including Google Trends
  • Experience working to deadlines in a target-driven, fast-moving social media company or publisher
  • Knowledge and passion for trending news
  • Passionate about social media and storytelling
  • Organised and good at planning ahead
  • A demonstrably high standard of written English
  • A proven ability to think, imagine and produce new and original ideas for specific audiences whilst continually delivering unique and engaging content in the UNILAD tone
  • A knowledge of both populist and specialist topics including celebrity news, human interest, science and technology
  • Outstanding writing, research and writing skills
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office and Google Suite (Sheets, Office etc)
  • Good use of Adobe, including Photoshop.
  • Willingness to adapt working schedule to cover major trending events

Responsibilities:

  • Working on all parts of the publishing journey, from ideation to creation, on up-to-date and popular content to create a knowledgeable and relevant portfolio
  • Using knowledge of search to find the latest news and viral trends ahead of competitors
  • Creating multiple articles each day in keeping with the tone and brand expectations of UNILAD
  • Strengthening UNILAD as an authority on subjects and using creativity to conceive original takes on popular topics, as well as follow-up angles for the biggest stories
  • Ensuring all deadlines and quotas are met within set timeframes
  • Working as a proactive member of LADbible Group Editorial team
  • Actively contributing to team meetings, pitches and article ideas
  • Monitoring user activity on articles and using it to inform pitches for original content and follow-up stories
  • Working across a rota and covering live events as they happen
  • Being a brand ambassador for UNILAD and LADbible Group and ensuring we strive for engagement while never compromising on tone of voice, authenticity and audience trust.
