We serve a diverse customer base, ranging from individual users and early-stage startups to global enterprises, across ChatGPT and our API (and beyond!). Operating within our Support organization, our team works closely with Product, Engineering, Legal, Policy, Go To Market and Operations teams to ensure we’re delivering the best possible experience to our users at scale while keeping OpenAI and users safe.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced Data Analyst to support the data needs of our Trust & Safety Operations team and help ensure safety and compliance on OpenAI platforms. In this role, you will leverage data analytics to support and improve our Trust, Safety, and Fraud initiatives, identifying trends, mitigating risks, and providing actionable insights to make our team more efficient and safeguard our users. This is a critical role within the operations team, where you will collaborate cross-functionally to drive organizational, process, and automation improvements. Ideally you have worked in a high-paced startup environment, have built foundational data infrastructure and analytics, and have worked with trust & safety operations, enforcement, and measurement systems.
Please note: This role may involve handling sensitive content, including material that may be highly confidential, sexual, violent, or otherwise disturbing.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and data visualizations to monitor key metrics for operational and systems health
  • Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies related to operational processes as well as trust and safety issues, such as fraud, content violations, and other types of abuse
  • Conceptualize, develop, and maintain centralized tools and dashboards for data extraction and business management
  • Utilize data to provide actionable insights and recommendations for operational efficiency, including improvements in workflows, automation, and tooling
  • Proactively detect emerging risks and trends and build feedback loops to drive improvements with product, policy, and other Ops teams
  • Collaborate with various Engineering, Data Engineering, and systems teams to integrate diverse data sources, ensuring the creation and maintenance of reliable, unified reports and analytics
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis and support ongoing investigations into specific incidents or cases

YOU MIGHT THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU:

  • Have experience using quantitative analysis to identify areas of improvement and influence business and product decisions
  • Demonstrate strong proficiency in SQL and data visualization tools; familiarity with Python or R is a plus
  • Are comfortable with building. This is an opportunity to use data analytics to help with scaling everything from policy enforcement through to the tooling stack to enable it
  • Have knowledge in Trust & Safety, Financial Fraud, or similar domains
  • Bring excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Have a humble attitude, an eagerness to help others, and a desire to pick up whatever knowledge you’re missing to make both your team and our customers succeed
  • Operate with high horsepower, are adept at frequent context switching and working on multiple projects at once with expansive ownership, and ruthlessly prioritize
