Job Description
JOB TITLE: Trustee Experience and Governance Manager
LOCATION(S): Edinburgh, Bristol, Leeds and Halifax
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.
About this Opportunity
Lloyds Banking Group’s pension schemes for its current and former employees are some of the UK’s largest. They are run by a trustee board. The trustee directors are responsible for ensuring that the assets of these pension schemes are properly invested and benefits are paid to members when due. The trustee directors are helped in their day-to-day activities – governance, finance and reporting, member services, investments, managing risk - by an in-house executive, a team of over 40 colleagues.
As part of the executive, you will support more than 300,000 current and former Lloyds Group colleagues and their families. At this scale, high quality governance is critical for good member outcomes.
Core purpose of the role

You will:

  • be the go-to contact for the most senior decision-makers. You’ll put yourself into the decision-maker’s shoes, understanding their responsibilities, needs, and preferences. You’ll tailor what we do so that decision-makers can get to the key points and get business done so that decision-makers can get to the key points and get business done.
  • make trustee meetings efficient and effective. You’ll be confident supporting chairs during meetings and in presenting your own items to meetings of senior decision-makers. You’ll plan agendas, coordinate papers and liaise with attendees.
  • run high-profile projects and strategic pieces, like effectiveness reviews, adviser appointments, and member-nominated trustee exercises.
  • ensure that decisions are made by the right people at the right time, taking account of the right information and advice, and recorded in the right way.
  • be passionate about the crucial part that governance policies, processes and risk management play in members’ retirements. You’ll run many of these – including onboarding new directors, trustee training, checking fitness and propriety. You’ll plan your work so you’ll know what needs to be done, when and how, and who needs to be involved. You’ll keep records so that we can show that we’re doing a good job.
  • mentor and support colleagues to maintain and improve quality.
  • enjoy working in variety of environments: working remotely, in an office collaborating with colleagues, and in virtual and in-person meetings.
  • run the reporting of key performance indicators.

Why Lloyds Banking Group?
Like the modern Britain we serve, we’re evolving. Investing billions in our people, data and tech to transform the way we meet the ever-changing needs of our 26 million customers. We’re growing with purpose. Join us on our journey and you will too…

What you’ll need

  • You’ll really commit to delivering a great trustee experience. You’re confident owning relationships with both the Trustee and senior decision-makers and delivering for them.
  • You’re someone who enjoys knowing that details are right. You know when flexibility is appropriate to achieve the goal. You’re comfortable grasping how written processes and policies are to be implemented, and just as comfortable calling out when processes and policies could be more effective.
  • You’re approachable and empathetic. You can understand colleagues’ perspectives while helping them to understand the importance of their role in processes.
  • You’re happy to speak up, share ideas and ask questions. You capture what you learn so that you can work autonomously.
  • You’ll build up technical knowledge (with our support) and be confident in using it. You’ll be confident using your judgement too, because you’ll understand what we need to achieve.
  • Your written communication will be clear, concise and accurate, and will use pictures and charts to help the reader.

We’d love to hear about your transferrable skills from similar roles. These do not have to be from secretariat or governance roles. Pensions knowledge is not essential. We’ll help you learn what you need to know.
About working for us
Our focus is to ensure we’re inclusive every day, building an organisation that reflects modern society and celebrates diversity in all its forms. We’re committed to creating a consciously inclusive workplace where our colleagues can be themselves, thrive and perform at their best.
We were one of the first major organisations to set goals on diversity in senior roles, create a menopause health package, and a dedicated Working with Cancer Initiative.
As an inclusive employer, we offer Workplace Adjustments for colleagues with a disability (which may include long-term health and neurodivergent conditions) where it is reasonable to do so. This could include flexibility with regards to office attendance, location, and working pattern.
We are proud to be a Disability Confident Leader. If you have a disability, you can also apply via our Disability Confident Scheme (DCS). Through the DCS, we guarantee to interview a fair and proportionate number of applicants with a disability, whose application meets the minimum criteria for the advertised job role. We also provide adjustments that are reasonable throughout the recruitment process to reduce or remove barriers for applicants with a disability, long-term health condition or neurodivergent condition. If you’d like an adjustment to the recruitment process just let us know.

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:

  • A generous pension contribution of up to 15%
  • An annual performance-related bonus
  • Share schemes including free shares
  • Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping
  • 30 days’ holiday, with bank holidays on top
  • A range of wellbeing initiatives and generous parental leave policies
