Description:
Join our Sportsgrounds Team based at Nelson Park, where you’ll play a key role in the preparation and maintenance of top-tier sports facilities, including McLean Park and other city venues as needed. You’ll work under the guidance of our Team Leader and Turf Manager to prepare sports surfaces to national and international standards, ensuring they are game-ready for events of all scales.
We’re looking for someone passionate about sports and turf care who is ready to help create high-quality surfaces for a variety of sporting codes. You’ll assist in the maintenance and presentation of all Napier city sportsgrounds, building strong relationships with users, and ensuring the grounds are in top condition year-round
Responsibilities will include:
- Maintain cricket wickets and sports grounds to a high standard as directed.
- Help set up for sporting events.
- Assist with seasonal transitions between different sports codes.
- Support with field marking, operating small machinery, mowing, tractor work, watering, and general sports ground preparation and maintenance.
- Monitor watering and performance indicators at McLean Park, Nelson Park, and other grounds, focusing on Eastern Sportgrounds at the start of the week.
- Work with the team to plan weekly tasks and support other staff in the Turf Manager’s absence to ensure successful event delivery.

Responsibilities:
TO EXCEL IN THIS ROLE, YOU SHOULD POSSESS:
- Working towards the completion of Level 3 and 4 in Turf Management
- Current drivers licence, Class 1 (Manual)
- High level of interest in sportsgrounds preparation, especially for cricket, rugby and football.
- Able to work under pressure in high profile public situations and maintain positive public relations;
- Good verbal communication skills;
We will be interviewing applications as we receive them and may close the role when we have found the right person.
