Department Description
The Global DEI team consists of a team of 14 DEI professionals reporting to the Global Managing Partner for DEI. The team sit within the Office of the CEO reflecting that the firm’s commitment to DEI and Responsible Business are one of five pillars of the Firm’s 5-2-1 strategy.
The UK DEI Manager role sits within the EMEA team of five; the Head of DEI EMEA is based in London and supported by a team in London and Germany.
Role Overview
The role of the UK DEI Manager is responsible for the implementation of the global DEI plan by performing a broad spectrum of duties that require independent decision making, discretion, and judgment. Under the guidance of the Head of DEI - EMEA, the UK DEI Manager will be able to work independently, in a highly organised manner, and prioritise their workload while working in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • Building strong relationships with key stakeholders including the UK leadership team, DEI Partner sponsors and advocates, acting as a key advisor and subject matter expert
  • Partnering with teams across the firm to support delivery of UK DEI strategy including Graduate Recruitment, Recruitment and HR Advisory
  • Preparing responses to DEI market surveys and benchmarks including delivery of annual Mansfield certification, Model Diversity Survey (MDS) submissions, Social Mobility Employers Index (SMEI) and adhoc awards
  • Driving racial equity programming including annual Flair Race in the Workplace survey and delivery of Racial Equity Plan actions
  • Roll out of global DEI education in the region and leading on comms and roll out of UK DEI programming including annual Self ID Campaign and National Inclusion Week
  • Managing external partnerships including General Counsel D&I (GCD&I), Business in the Community (BITC), Inclusive Employers, Miranda Brawn Diversity Scholarship and Law Society’s Diversity Access Scheme
  • Liaison with employee networks; managing budgets, supporting programme design and delivery, building opportunities for collaboration, promoting opportunities across the firm
  • Producing internal and external reports to monitor progress against global goals; leads on annual Pay Gap reporting and bi-annual SRA submission
  • Partner with M&BD to deepen relationships with key clients; updating key DEI collateral and inputting into annual EMEA and Global DEI reports
  • Delivering training on DEI concepts, and feels comfortable facilitating conversations on DEI
  • Presenting to vacation scheme students, trainees, and at other open days/ad hoc events to support widening participation activities
  • Manage the EMEA DEI Co-ordinator based in London and responsible for preparing and monitoring UK DEI budget
  • As part of the broader EMEA region, the role also provides support to the Johannesburg DEI committee, building relationships with key contact and sharing details of relevant EMEA wide programming and activity
  • Represent the DEI department at client and industry events

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

  • Previous DEI experience is essential; two years of which at management level
  • Prior experience in the legal sector is not required, however you should be able to demonstrate some knowledge of the challenges of working in a partnership environment
  • D&I certificate/ qualification or another significant D&I credential is desirable
