Description:

The post-holder will lead the undergraduate medical education programme in Neurology at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. They will w ork closely with the undergraduate team to develop and deliver educational programmes which will support medical learners to develop their clinical and communication competencies. The post-holder will provide feedback to medical learners and support them with their professional and pastoral needs. They will ensure adherence to the teaching, learning and assessment methods of the curriculum of partner medical schools and contribute to its development locally. They will work closely with the Director of Medical Education, the Associate Directors of Undergraduate Medical Education the undergraduate team and clinical skills team to respond to feedback from learners / clinicians as well as external regulators to ensure the quality of placements at UHMBT.
Acquire a comprehensive understanding of the curriculum of partner medical schools and the levels of knowledge expected in each year of study.
Co-ordinate timetables to ensure medical learner can meet curriculum requirements
Assist with the planning, implementation and evaluation of structured timetables for all medical learners
Ensure quality educational attachments / experiences for the undergraduate medical learners
Deliver varied modes of teaching such as classroom-based case-based discussions, bedside teaching, simulation and a multi-disciplinary team approach to learning.
Be part of the feedback processes with the undergraduate team in providing appropriate and up to date feedback to the medical learners and clinical teachers.
Lead inductions and the evaluation process of clinical placements.
Address any performance or behaviour concerns as appropriate together with the undergraduate education manager.
Contribute to the pastoral welfare and provide support to medical learners
Attend various meetings / committees as required locally and at partner medical schools.
Monitor the overall educational environment to identify issues in terms of learner capacity, provision of facilities, equipment, learning resources and teachers.
Evaluate learner feedback on their experiences, consolidate examples of good practice and communicate and help address areas of concern.
Act as a site lead or examiner at medical student clinical exams.
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Liaise with the undergraduate team in the co-ordination of timetables to ensure medical learner can meet curriculum requirements by maximising educational opportunities.
Assist with the planning, implementation and evaluation of structured timetables for all medical learners
Ensure quality educational attachments / experiences for the undergraduate medical learners which can be measured against the objectives of medical school curricula.
Deliver varied modes of teaching such as classroom-based case-based discussions, bedside teaching, simulation and a multi-disciplinary team approach to learning.
Assess learners progress and report findings through the appropriate undergraduate pathways.
Be part of the feedback processes with the undergraduate team in providing appropriate and up to date feedback to the medical learners and clinical teachers.
In conjunction with the undergraduate team provide support and advice to clinicians about undergraduate medical education.
Lead inductions and the evaluation process of clinical placements.
Be mindful of learner behaviour (dress, attitude, punctuality, manner etc). Address any performance or behaviour concerns as appropriate together with the undergraduate education manager.
Contribute to the pastoral welfare and provide support to medical learners on attachment, liaising with the undergraduate team.
Attend various meetings / committees as required locally and at partner medical schools.
Monitor the overall educational environment to identify issues in terms of learner capacity, provision of facilities, equipment, learning resources and teachers.
Evaluate learner feedback on their experiences, consolidate examples of good practice and communicate and help address areas of concern.

Supporting Educators
Provide support and guidance to all Trust based clinical educators so that they are able to deliver an appropriate range of clinical teaching.
Communication
Maintain links between UHMBT and partner medical schools
Ensure systematic and effective communications in relation to relevant education programmes and make a positive personal contribution to excellent communications across the Trust.
Quality and Governance
Education is a core NHS responsibility on a par with clinical activity, and as such requires robust governance policies and procedures. At a local level it is essential that quality assurance, in the form of quality control continues to take place outside scheduled inspections and this requires local leadership. This must also occur where education is an integrated, inter-professional activity and appropriate linkages need to be developed at the local level.
Quality Assurance
Support Trust based quality assurance processes to continually improve the quality of the education delivered.
Support parity in educational opportunities with appreciation of the wider educational programmes provided to other learner groups and trainees in the Trust.
In relation to external quality visits and internal improvement plans, the post holder will be expected to:
Contribute to actions and implementation plans.
Contribute to the collection, collation and analysis of performance data.
Contribute to quality visits for relevant programmes and attend in person to represent the Trust alongside the DME/ADME and UGME Manager.
Contribute to the development and delivery of quality improvement plans for relevant programmes, where the details will be agreed with the DME/ADME.
Ensure that systems deliver the required educational material resources to learners, educators and other relevant staff for all teaching and learning activities.
Ensure that agreed processes provide and analyse collated feedback from learners and educators regarding relevant programmes.
Governance
Work with the DME/ADME to contribute to performance monitoring systems and processes including meetings, committees and reports.
Adhere to the requirements of Trust quality control processes in the reporting on educational performance and risks.
Contribute to the preparation and presentation of information on performance within relevant programmes as a part of quality monitoring and quality assurance inspections and visits.
Observe, and maintain at all times, the appropriate privacy of learner and relevant educator information and records.
