Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.
About The Role
Schedule: 2 weeks on 2 weeks off (FIFO) / Residential
Position Reports To: UG Mine Manager
Position Overview
The Underground Chief Engineer is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing all underground engineering activities at New Gold’s Rainy River underground mine. This role involves managing a team of engineers and technical personnel, ensuring the safety and efficiency of underground mining operations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in underground mining engineering, proven leadership skills, and a commitment to upholding New Gold’s standards for safety, quality, and environmental stewardship.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering required; advanced degree preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent certification is required.
Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in underground mining engineering, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
Extensive knowledge of underground mining methods, ground control, ventilation, and equipment.
Proven experience in managing large-scale underground mining projects and teams.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex engineering challenges effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
