Responsibilities:
1. ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE
Reporting to the section supervisor, the New Miner - Laborer is part of a team providing support and assistance to skilled trades people underground at Vista Mine
2. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The following are the general job responsibilities for the New Miner - Laborer
- Perform pre-shift equipment inspection and report any defects to supervisor and/or maintenance
- Follow directives from shift supervisors to coordinate day-to-day ground control requirements.
- Participate and invoke all required regulatory underground miner training.
- The New Miner - Laborer must have the ability to lift, push, pull or carry objects.
- Work through example, adhering to safe work practices, and complying with all local and provincial safety regulations.
- Install or fix existing mine services such as vent tubing and pipes using various lifting equipment such as chain blocks and hand tools.
- Report any safety hazards to direct supervisor and / or committee member
- Load and unload mining materials and move materials to work areas.
- Assisting with site preparation and clearance and maintaining general site tidiness;, assisting in operation of tools and equipment; cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment; assisting in maintaining site safety and security.
- As directed by the Section Supervisor to assist with general site storage, lifting, fetching supplies, unloading and checking deliveries and undertaking tasks to assist tradesmen generally
- Assisting to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair; to ensure compliance with, Alberta Mining Regulations working practices and health and safety
- Liaising with Section Supervisor and other site workers and performing jobs as they arise
- Work using your own initiative within specified parameters – do not wait to be asked
- Maintain accurate worksheets and records/documentation associated with your work
- Contribute towards the efficient running of the team
- Adhere to all organization policies and procedures, including those relating to hygiene, respect for other team members, time keeping and flexibility
