POSITION OVERVIEW

As a member of the Mine Planning Team, Mine Planning Engineer (Mid-Range Planner) will report to the Senior Engineer Mine Planning based in Calgary office. This is a Calgary office-based position and requires regular visit to mine site almost more than once every month to update and prepare 12-week plans, 24 month rolling forecasts, helping the team in preparing their weekly plans. This position also requires helping the team in creating long range and LOM plans for underground mining operation and update feasibility reports for future underground projects.
The successful candidate will become a valued member of the Mine Planning team and the primary point of contact between the technical team and mine operation team.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Mining Engineering complimented with 4 years of mining engineering experience at an mechanized underground mine/ project environment. Professional engineering designation is desirable.
  • PMP certification or some experience in project scheduling and execution is desirable.
  • Experience in mine dewatering, water balance, commissioning and supervising small processing units.
  • Experience in mine scheduling, drill and blast designs and underground mine pit designs
  • Proven experience in multiple areas including but not limited to mine design, scheduling, mine survey, and drill & blast.
  • Proficiency with relevant software programs (i.e. MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, Deswik, and Vulcan etc);
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills (English);
  • Leadership, planning and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of general mining safety requirements and procedures.
  • Proven time management and decision-making skills.
  • Working knowledge of SAP would be an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve best-in-class efficiency and productivity;
  • Class 5 driver’s license is required.
  • Experience working in the mining industry, northern Canada, and an understanding of the northern regulatory environment is preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrating Felt Safety Leadership as part of your daily work.
  • Carrying out all duties in accordance with the corporate charter and values.
  • Creating 12-week integrated mine plan, 24 month rolling forecast, month end reconciliation reports and project schedules for ongoing projects including sensitivities around prices, workforce availability, ore grade, opex and capex.
  • Facilitating weekly and monthly meetings to communicate the mine plan to key stakeholders.
  • Proficient in designing underground infrastructures including ramps, stopes, sub levels, drifts, sumps, shops, substation, and other long-term infrastructures
  • Working level understanding of cave flowing and cave management in Sub level retreat mining and block caving methods.
  • Experience in doing ventilation modelling using Ventsim and water balance using pumpsim.
  • Understanding of mine fans and selection of mine fans and other electrical infrastructure for an underground mine
  • Experience in mine simulation studies
  • Hands on experience in workforce planning for an underground mine
  • Experience in dewatering operations and water management in underground mining operations.
  • Experience in doing case studies and writing technical reports.
  • Experience in geotechnical monitoring, understanding of ground supports, designing support systems and creating support plans for underground operations.
  • Proficient in drill and blast designs, creating solutions for dilution control in draw points.
  • Helping short range planners in creating weekly plans for executions.
  • Create power BI reports for senior leadership team on weekly basis.
  • Create opex and capital forecasts and some understanding of financial modelling and engineering economics.
  • Experience in writing standard operating procedures for underground operations.
  • Providing coaching and mentorship to junior staff members.
  • Providing technical guidance to surveyors, mining technicians, and drill & blast engineers.
  • Maintaining and fostering company – contractor relations.
