We are looking for a passionate, driven, collaborative individual to join our Underwriting Operations team. In this position is to provide leadership and supervise a team of underwriters who handle underwriting files on a referral basis which aligns with Aviva’s core values and risk appetite.

What you’ll Do

  • Provides support, leadership, coaching and mentoring on an individualized basis in order to achieve high level of performance
  • Ensures service level goals are met with appropriate focus on risk, client satisfaction and profitability
  • Responsible to develop, review, approve, and implement business targets in support of PI Operational Strategic Focus:
  • Becoming a diversified growth engine
  • A trusted customer champion
  • Drive profit through first class foundations
  • Leading on sustainability/employee engagement
  • Liaise with different areas of Aviva, including National Personal Lines, Pricing, RBC Agency,
  • AAS, Workforce Management, Aviva Solutions and Claims
  • Motivation of staff using personal communication skills and team building exercises
  • Direct human resource activities for staff including hiring and recruiting, performance assessment, and related HR issues
  • Driving force of the targeted performance of the underwriting team
  • Responsible for reviewing escalated underwriting decisions and providing technical guidance as needed
  • Ability to deliver excellent presentations to underwriting staff and company executives on the performance of the underwriting team

Flexibility is necessary as candidates may be required to occasionally work evening shifts and Saturdays

What you’ll Bring

  • University or College degree preferred (Combination of education and experience will be considered)
  • CIP designation or Minimum 10 years of underwriting experience in the Home & Auto insurance industry for all of Canada
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of Personal Lines Underwriting insurance legislation and coverages
  • Good knowledge of PolicyCenter and Microsoft Office programs,
  • Proven experience or demonstration of leadership capabilities (i.e. team lead, project lead, mentors). Formal supervisory/leadership experience is an asset.
  • Outstanding verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills when taking care of client issues
  • Solid ability to build effective relationships with teams and drive results through a collaborative approach as an intermediary with other departments
  • Solid ability to handle/resolve policy specific problems under the appropriate company guidelines and policies.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage a heavy workload while dealing with inflexible deadlines and competing priorities
