Responsibilities:

  • Develop, document and maintain clear underwriting procedures and processes, ensuring underwriting practices and governance frameworks adhere to company guidelines, underwriting rules and guidelines, regulatory requirements, internal controls and best practice
  • Support continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives within the key functions, including Underwriting, Finance, Claims and Operations
  • Facilitate, participate and contribute to meetings of underwriting, other technical committees and subject matter expert groups; ensuring clear communication and productive discussions which lead to informed decisions.
  • Conduct regular reviews of new & existing underwriting guidelines, assess potential portfolio impact and recommend updates to reflect industry best practices, Group Underwriting Guidelines updates, and regulatory changes
  • Assist in underwriting file reviews to ensure adherence to established principles, guidelines and procedures
  • Analyze underwriting data to identify potential risk areas and recommend mitigating strategies and support business reporting and performance analysis, market research and analysis, and developing in depth studies of specific topics where required
  • Participate, research and contribute to the development and implementation of new product areas. This includes researching and staying current on industry trends in relevant technical areas.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on underwriting performance and risk management activities
  • Assistance with portfolio management and interaction across the wider Retail portfolio
  • Assist and deputise for senior management, undertaking such duties as and when required.
  • Lead, develop and manage a team of underwriters, acting as a referral point. This includes imparting your thorough working knowledge of underwriting principles, procedures and controls, to support the development of team members.
  • Underwrite high profile and complex UK/Global, new or existing accounts, complying with underwriting guidelines, authorities, processes and strategy.
  • Acting as the escalation point for Global and Strategic partners, lead, promote and develop appropriate strategic relationships with brokers, clients, reinsurers, market players to build up a strong valued network and pipeline to bring in targeted business, as well as supporting the AXA XL profile in the market. This includes representing AXA XL during external events/meetings and promoting AXA values, capabilities and services.
  • Oversight on submissions including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports.
  • Control timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards.
  • In coordination with other internal teams, determine appropriate reinsurance for risk placements
