JOB OPPORTUNITY:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance is seeking an Underwriting Technician for our Wholesale Property division. The Underwriting Technician (UT) will work within the underwriting team and will perform tasks to directly support the underwriting process including pre-quote, pre-bind, bind and post-bind transactions.
The UT will also perform additional underwriting support activities associated with information gathering and rating for new business, renewals and midterm policy changes. Additionally, the UT will assist with electronic file preparation on behalf of the Underwriter.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 1-5 years commercial insurance experience is preferred, with experience in commercial property a plus.
  • Experience in E&S/non-admitted business is ideal, but is not required.
  • In-depth understanding of policy construction, policy issuance, and basic rating.
  • Working knowledge of commercial property policy forms.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proven attention to detail.
  • Must be proactive and able to work within a team environment.
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and have the ability to support and build workflow and process.
  • Strong communication skills; both verbal and written.
  • Strong willingness to learn.
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong competency in MS Office applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Support underwriters with all activities related to account development.
  • Build electronic files and ensure file integrity.
  • Coordinate policy issuance and liaise with Operations team.
  • Triage broker submissions and ensure all required underwriting data is accurate.
  • Draft quotes and binders and review with underwriters.
  • Correspond with brokers; follow up on outstanding information.
  • Perform valuation analyses on various types of occupancies, using internal toolsets.
  • Work with underwriters to compile and submit accounts for Catastrophe Modeling.
  • Act as a liaison between Underwriting and the Operations Team.
