Wage Schedule: $27.510 - $28.760 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Unit Clerk will provide a wide range of clerical duties in support of the daily operations of the new Long-Term Care Home, Lakeridge Gardens. Reporting to the Administrative Services Leader, the Unit Clerk is responsible for providing clerical and administrative support to ensure that office and reception services are provided in a courteous, effective and timely manner.
This this new home is part of the government’s plan to improve long-term care delivery and capacity in Ontario and in the Durham Region. This state-of-the-art long-term care home sets a new bar for seniors’ care, with dining and outdoor space on every floor, a large courtyard, onsite diabetes care and other important innovative features.
Just as Lakeridge Health is a beacon in the Durham community, the new long-term care home will be integral to managing and delivering on the needs and expectations of seniors in the Durham community and Ontario.
Duties and Responsibilities:

While adhering to confidentiality, the Unit Clerk acts as a receptionist while performing a wide variety of clerical duties such as:

  • Greeting visitors, determine purpose of visit, and direct visitors to appropriate person or service;
  • Answer and forward telephone calls, take messages, schedule appointments; schedule or secure transportation for residents and others as requested;
  • Placing outgoing calls as requested;
  • Maintain records as required and performs clerical work as assigned following Lakeridge Gardens policies and procedures; maintain current, orderly filing system;
  • Distribute mail;
  • Maintain office equipment by following guidelines in owner manuals and contacting service repair as necessary
  • Monitor front door for residents at risk;
  • Extensive knowledge of Lakeridge Health’s relevant collective agreements in order to support staffing and scheduling as required;
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment and infection control;
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Medical Office Administration Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Knowledge of programs with Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care;
  • Proven knowledge of medical terminology (tested);
  • Proven knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (tested - basic level);
  • Proven keyboarding skills of 30 wpm (tested);
  • Exceptional organizational skills will enable you to prioritize, coordinate and perform a wide range of clerical duties necessary to the efficient functioning of the department;
  • Knowledge of Meditech;
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written in order to effectively interact with all levels of staff, patients and their families;
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment;

  • Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past 6 months
  • Must have a satisfactory performance record;
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health’s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area
