We are looking for a Unit Secretary/Birth Clerk to support our Womens Services Department.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains patient records on unit.
- Performs and coordinates the clerical and public relations functions for the unit.
- Coordinating patient services and tests provided by the other ancillary hospital departments.
- Acts as unit receptionist receiving and directing visitors.
- Works collaboratively with the health care team, is customer focused and strives to meet unit and hospital goals.
- Provides quality work according to established practice standards and guidelines for the area(s) assigned.
- Must be willing/able to float to other (comparable) nursing units, as requested/needed.
- Completes in a timely manner all Birth Certificate/Death Certificate and Paternity Acknowledgement records according to South Carolina Vital Records policies and procedures.
Qualifications

- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Some college or vocational training preferred.
- Must possess skills for the ability to make independent, responsible decisions upholding policy and procedure; must have concern for detail and be able to work quickly and accurately.
- Individual must maintain a pleasant and tactful manner when working with people in stressful situations and be able to solve problems and deal with conflict; must have the ability to interpret a variety of handwritten data.
- Must protect confidential information, records, and reports.
- Must be able to perform duties accurately under stress.
- Must be able to work irregular schedules, weekends, and holidays due to staffing and census fluctuations.
- Obtains Notary Public upon hire and maintains Notary Public status.
Minimum Experience: Basic computer and typing skills required. Previous hospital experience or secretary training within the medical field preferred.
