The successful candidate will:
- Assisting with billing: Completing billing documentation and collecting co-pays and pre-pays
- Providing customer service: Answering inquiries from patients and healthcare providers
- Reviewing patient information: Checking patient medical history and insurance coverage
- Obtaining authorization: Verifying eligibility, benefits, and pre-certification requirements
- Communicating with providers: Contacting referring physicians and insurance carriers for information
- Tracking progress: Monitoring the status of pre-authorizations and notifying administrative assistants of due dates
- Documenting information: Entering new patient information into the computer system and documenting the patient’s record
- A high school diploma and job training specific to their industry. In the medical insurance industry, they may also need advanced qualifications in medical coding and billing.
Interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress; bilingual communication skills are helpful. Present a positive attitude and a professional appearance
Be well organized and develop a structural base in spite of frequent interruptions.
Remain calm and courteous with all patients, staff and co-workers as well as flexible with work assignments
Interact with Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and other members of the medical staff in a collaborative manner.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required
3 to 5 years’ experience in a health care delivery system.
Bilingual skills preferred
Computer-literate, Windows, MIS, e-mail spreadsheet format.
