JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The College of Pharmacy is seeking a Research Assistant Professor to manage the MUSC Cell & Molecular Imaging (CMI) Core. The successful Candidate should have training and experience in a variety of imaging acquisition and analysis techniques, including laser-scanning/spinning-disk confocal, multi-photon, super-resolution, and FLIM/FRET microscopy, as well in image analysis, deconvolution, and visualization using ImageJ, Imaris and Huygens or similar software. The CMI Manager will work closely with the CMI Director and other CMI staff to ensure that the services provided by CMI meet the needs of MUSC researchers.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, or related discipline.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & ADDITIONAL SKILLS:

  • At least five years of experience working in an imaging core facility.
  • Expertise in live and fixed sample preparation and fluorophore selection
  • Expertise in multiple advanced imaging modalities, including laser-scanning/spinning disk confocal, multiphoton, super-resolution, and FLIM/FRET microscopy.
  • Ability to learn and teach emerging new microscopy techniques.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of CMI including routine basic maintenance of CMI instrumentation.
  • Create, maintain, and regularly update user manuals and application notes for specific microscopes and applications
  • Provide consultation to CMI users on fluorophore selection, sample preparation, and experimental design.
  • Train CMI users in the proper use of microscopes and post-acquisition image processing and analysis.
  • Assist CMI users in resolving experimental and technical issues relating to imaging.
  • Assist in development of new imaging applications
  • Together with the CMI Director, assess the needs and opportunities for acquisition of new instrumentation.
  • Maintain SOPs and quality control measures to monitor compliance by CMI, its staff, and users with institutional and regulatory policies in a BSL-3 environment.
  • Participate in grant and report writing.
  • Help develop approaches to educate members of the MUSC research community about imaging applications to keep them apprised of developments in the field.
  • Promote CMI to the MUSC research community through events
  • Manage billing and maintain the CMI website.
  • Conduct guest tours.
