Founded in 1995, the Lycée Français de Toronto (LFT) is the only French school in Toronto accredited by the French Ministry of National Education from pre-kindergarten to grade 12. POSITION OVERVIEW

The LFT offers a comprehensive and highly individualized university and career counselling program. We are committed to supporting each student as they identify and develop their interests. The LFT community has high expectations in the area of university placement. All of our students are bilingual and attend university. Typically, 75% of our students attend university in Canada and the US and 25% attend university in Europe. Every year about 70% of our students study in English and 30% study in French. Many of our students are accepted to the world’s most prestigious universities.
During grades 9-12, the LFT helps students explore their post-secondary options by providing guidance on career exploration, the international application process, interview techniques, preparing an effective resume/personal statement and relevant tips to assist with their post-secondary search.
The counsellor participates in the promotion of the French Baccalaureate in North America and is able to advise families on the expectations of each university in terms of academic results or choice of speciality subject, depending on their project.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong understanding of the university application process in Canada
  • Good understanding of the university application process in the USA (AP, SAT, PSAT), and Europe
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to multi-task and take initiative
  • Bilingual French / English is an asset
  • Familiarity with the French Baccalaureate curriculum
  • A passion for continuous learning in a bilingual and bicultural secondary environment

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the grade 9 – 12 guidance program which includes the following:
  • In-person/virtual visits from 20 Canadian, American and European universities
  • Multiple virtual/in-person university fairs
  • Application workshops,
  • Career Fairs
  • Alumni panels
  • Job Shadowing Program for grade 9 students
  • Presentations to families focusing on university planning and academic programs in North America and Europe.
  • Maintain the LFT – Orientation Portal
  • Support grade 9-12 students and parents to identify students’ individual learning profile and helping them leverage their strengths though academic, career and university advising
  • Foster strong university relations, particularly with Canadian universities
  • Coordinate and schedule testing and College Board programs: SAT, PSAT, AP
  • Provide input to The School Profile related to University admissions
  • Work with Head of School, Secondary School Academic Director and School Life Counsellor on curricular and co-curricular school activities
  • Coordinate grade 12 graduation ceremony with Secondary School Academic Director; and SK and grade 5 graduation ceremonies with Primary School Director
  • Collaborate with the teacher who is responsible for university counselling for France on orientation activities and counselling
    Collaborate with middle school community on academic and career options within the Canadian framework.
