An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, self-motivated nurse / midwife to join our Urogynaecology Outpatient Nursing Team in Gynaecology at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust.
We are looking to recruit a Band 7 nurse / midwife with experience and qualifications in this field or someone who is willing to work towards this at Band 6 level as part of an 18 month to 2 year training post. Gynaecology knowledge and experience is essential to this role.
The successful candidate will work alongside a consultant lead in urogynaecology and a dedicated team of gynaecology nurses and support workers. The team provide a specialist service for women with pelvic floor and bladder dysfunction.
The post holder will be able to co-ordinate and deliver an expert nurse led service including the management of prolapse, vaginal pessary, bladder retraining, catheter care, TWOC, PTNS, bladder instillation’s, and provide medication reviews.
They will be able to work autonomously, have excellent decision making skills, ensuring the delivery of high quality care.
The candidate will be an experienced gynaecology nurse with excellent clinical skills, in addition have a proven track record in teaching and education as well as service improvement and leadership.
The post holder will be required to work cross sites at West Middlesex University Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
The post holder will work independently and unsupervised as an expert urogynaecology Specialist Nurse within the urogynaecology cross-site service. They will demonstrate advanced levels of clinical judgment, discretion and clinical decision making in accordance with evidence-based practice and the British Society of Urogynaecology (BSUG)
The post holder will be an experienced urogynaecolgy specialist nurse, with expert knowledge and skills in the field of urogynaecolgy.
They should be able to co-ordinate and deliver an expert nurse led service including being able to assess new patients referred with disrupted urinary function and pelvic organ prolapse, undertaking vaginal examination, bladder scanning and urodynamic studies; manage vaginal pessaries, bladder retaining, catheter care, TWOC, PTNS, bladder instillations, ISC teaching and medication reviews and be able to advise on appropriate treatment plans.
The post holder will work in partnership with the Urogynaecology Lead Consultant on both Trust sites and the Clinical Director for Gynaecology to deliver the clinical objectives of the service.
The role includes supporting specialist nurses in training, providing clinical teaching and education to other colleagues (medical/nursing) to enhance clinical practice and improve patient care.

• Possess and demonstrate clinical skills including being able to deliver specialised urogynaecology assessment and treatments.
• Responsible and accountable for the management of a patient caseload within the specialty.
• Work autonomously to carry out specialist care.
• Work within an agreed job plan to meet service needs (reviewed annually). A minimum of 75% of the time will be direct patient assessment, care and treatment. The remaining 25% of the time will be dedicated to the required service management activities (managing the patient help line, promoting education, leading and monitoring the patient safety agenda, participation in audit to improve care delivery and patient outcomes, managing supplies).
• Establish and maintain effective personal relationships with patients and relatives and ensure that the individual’s physical and psychological needs are identified.
• Be expected to establish and maintain an effective network of communication with members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Be responsible for receiving and disseminating information, to all grades of staff, relating to patient care management as appropriate.
• Communicate with patients at the appropriate level of understanding about issues regarding their medical condition whilst maintaining patient confidentiality. Ensure that they understand the rationale for their care and its consequences and alternatives. As far as possible ensure that the patient understands the information given to them, overcoming any barriers to understanding, e.g., deafness, learning difficulties, stroke patients. Record details of any information given, always maintaining patient confidentiality.
• Use specialist knowledge to take Informed Consent from the patient by informing the patient and explaining the reason for the procedure, benefits, risks, complications and effects of the intended procedure, and any alternative treatments.
• Perform a comprehensive problem focused health history and physical examination, and be able to analyse and interpret history, presenting symptoms, physical findings and diagnostic information to develop differential diagnosis within the specialist area.
• Ensure patients are investigated appropriately, interpret results and communicate results to patient, carer and GP/referrer.
