US POLICY ADVISOR (WASHINGTON, DC)

We are looking for a US Policy Advisor who will report to the Head of US Government Relations and Corporate Affairs, assisting with the implementation of Glencore’s Corporate Affairs strategy for the US.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English (corporate language).
  • Robust network of contacts in US politics, government, and public policy, and relevant experience working with public officials with appropriate exposure.
  • Ability to present complex information in a concise, accurate, timely and audience-appropriate manner.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, attention to detail, a self-starter mentality, and a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Open to diverse points of view, able to receive feedback, and a track record of adapting quickly to new circumstances with limited information.
  • This position will be based in Glencore’s Washington, DC office.
  • FLSA Status: this is an Exempt position and is not eligible for overtime pay
  • Hybrid schedule: expected to be in the office 3-4 days per week
  • Travel: some travel is expected as part of the duties

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree in relevant field – public policy and/or administration; foreign affairs; economics; business

- 5-7 years of relevant work experience in government and/or government relations, public policy, and public affairs, or a corporate / consulting environment.
- Excellent understanding of the US political system, including legislative, regulatory, and administrative processes, as well as a firm grasp of the US stakeholder landscape.
- Effective influencing and communication skills in dealing with external stakeholders and senior leadership internally.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of US Government Relations and Corporate Affairs and relevant business units in the implementation of Glencore’s US Corporate Affairs strategy.
  • Serve as a point of contact and relationship manager for Glencore´s membership in various US-based business and industry associations.
  • Promote the further development of Glencore’s network in the US and identify possible entry points for engagement on topics of relevance to the company and our industry.
  • Assist in identifying and monitoring domestic and global policy and regulatory developments in the natural resources sector that have an impact on Glencore’s businesses.
  • Collaborate on diverse public affairs projects, in close coordination with the communications team, to drive impact for Glencore’s global and US Corporate Affairs program.
  • Generate various content (e.g. briefing notes, meeting minutes, issue monitoring, factsheets, digital collateral, and position papers).
  • Manage special projects to help inform and tailor the company’s vision, objectives, and strategic approach.
