Description:

True Used Car Director needed to oversee all pre-owned operations for a new-car dealership group south of Atlanta, GA. The successful candidate is an experienced Used Car Director who is excellent at managing and acquiring pre-owned vehicles. This is a great opportunity for a results-oriented Used Car Director who actively strives to build their department and grow volume the right way. Must be strong at managing turn time and working with the recon teams to ensure used vehicles are front-line ready in a timely manner and that no aged units are forgotten about on the lot. This is for multiple dealerships and it is important that the Used Car Director allocates the right pre-owned inventory to the right locations for optimal turn times. Though this is a used car focused role, it is important that this person understands, and has worked within, the new car franchise business model and understands the CPO process as well.
The Used Car Director will NOT be responsible to work the desk or interact with customers on a daily basis. Moreover, the Used Car Director will be responsible to handle all administrative tasks related to the pre-owned departments including inventory management, sourcing, marketing, reviewing all appraisals, reconditioning, aging inventory, etc. It is imperative that the Used Car Director is strong at acquiring cars and fluent in online auctions. vAuto experience highly preferred. This is a great long-term opportunity with a successful and growing dealer group. This position reports directly to the Dealer Principal who also has a very strong background in pre-owned as well. Must be ethical, honest, and trustworthy.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Used Vehicle Operations: Manage procurement, pricing, reconditioning, merchandising, and sales processes for the entire used vehicle department.
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement innovative strategies to optimize used car operations, enhance profitability, and ensure market competitiveness.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the sourcing, procurement, reconditioning, and merchandising of used vehicles to maintain an attractive and diverse inventory.
  • Market Analysis: Stay ahead of industry trends, analyze market dynamics, and identify opportunities for growth and improvement in the used car segment.
  • Vendor Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with key vendors, wholesalers, and auction houses to secure quality used car inventory.
  • Reconditioning Management: Oversee the reconditioning process, manage the recon team, and ensure cars are front-line ready.
  • Inventory Maintenance: Maintain used vehicle inventory, monitor customer preferences, analyze lost sales, and conduct local market analyses to determine which vehicles to stock.
  • Marketing Management: Handle the marketing of pre-owned vehicles.
  • Performance Monitoring: Motivate, train, and monitor the performance of used car managers.
  • Sales Coordination: Ensure salespeople are informed of all new (used) inventory and current advertising efforts, including special sales.
  • Day Turn Policy Enforcement: Enforce a pre-determined day turn policy.
  • Vehicle Display Planning: Plan and control the display of used vehicles.
  • Auction Monitoring: Keep abreast of auto auction activity and prices; attend auctions regularly.
  • Auction Paperwork Management: Approve all paperwork from auctions and provide proper documentation to the office for purchases.
  • Auction Results Tracking: Track the results of auction purchases and compare gross profits of auction vehicles with those of trade-ins.
  • Appraisal Review: Review appraisals to ensure accurate vehicle valuations.
  • Manager Meetings Attendance: Attend managers’ meetings regularly.
  • Professional Appearance: Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Technology Utilization: Utilize dealer technologies such as vAuto.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and corporate policies within the used car department.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as required.

Schedule:

  • This is a Monday – Friday position.

Compensation / Benefits:

  • Compensation range will be in the $180,000 - $220,000+++ range depending on experience, performance, and track record with true room for growth.
