Description:

The Trainee Information Systems (TIS) Programme supports and develops a range of products and services that help users manage the administration of NHS trainees and learners who are supported by NHS England, such as postgraduate doctors in training.
We are expanding our multi-disciplinary product teams and embracing user-centred design (UCD) within the context of the Government Digital Service Standard.
Our user researchers who will be responsible for user research activities and developing UCD practice across services. You will be attached to a multi-disciplinary team, so working with a range of team members, end users and stakeholders.
You will conduct research at all stages of a product lifecycle, e.g. participating in discovery-level projects and day to day improvements to understand our users’ needs.
The team is going through change, and we require user researchers to help us transform how we meet our user needs and expectations. Putting the user at the centre of what we do is critical if we are to succeed.
Our focus is to work confidently as multi-disciplinary product teams, focusing on user needs and delivery. We want all people working in the team to be able to contribute and share in the success of what we do, especially in support of our users to help them work better using products we develop.
TIS is a national team and although we have two “hubs” in London and Manchester, you can base yourself from any NHS England office across the country subject to approval.
Work within a multi-disciplinary, agile team to lead user research, including planning, design, and implementation of research.
Influence service proposition, and align user research activities with wider plans, amplifying the voices of users.
Supervise and develop colleagues in user research activities and competencies.
Work closely with users, stakeholders, and agile development teams to design, deliver, and implement new digital services for health professionals, trainees, stakeholders, and the public.
Employ a range of research approaches and methodologies, including qualitative, quantitative, collaborative, online and usability research, with external and internal users.
Work with colleagues in the team to ensure that user needs are at the forefront of the design process.
Work closely with colleagues to develop the brand identity of NHSE’s digital estate.
Be equally comfortable working proactively to plan, manage and deliver work, as well as reactively responding to changing environmental factors and emerging issues.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
Responsibilities
Deliver high quality user research to inform and influence the development and design of our digital products and services.
Work closely with others in TIS and beyond to ensure user research is “joined up”, including working collaboratively.
Help keep stakeholders and users informed.
Essential criteria – You will have understanding, knowledge, and experience of the following;
Significant user research experience
Leading on user research, including full ownership of UR projects
Engaging with users and understanding their needs
User-centred design.
Digital delivery, such as aligned to the Government Digital Service (GDS) Service Standards.
Agile working.
Communications to a wide and variable audience.
Building and maintaining key relationships.
Strong negotiating skills.
Change management.
Desirable criteria – You may also have the following experience;
Working in a multi-disciplinary agile team.
Supporting cross-service delivery
Working with suppliers.
Digital transformation involvement.
Leading discovery and other significant research.
