EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Professional Engineer, licenced to practice in Ontario
  • Registered Gas Distribution Professional
  • 5-8 years’ experience working with gas distribution networks and underground construction
  • Class G drivers’ licence

Responsibilities:

The Utilities Engineer provides technical knowledge to ensure safe, reliable and efficient management of the gas distribution system. The incumbent delivers on capital and asset management plans to support organizational priorities and supports decision makers by providing detailed information regarding asset conditions, risk and legal requirements and regulations.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Prepare and review design drawings and ensure compliance with CSA Regulation Z662.
2. Provide engineering advice and consultation to managers/supervisors and participate in decision making processes as requested.
3. Perform analyses, calculations, research and develop procedures.
4. Implement capital initiatives to resolve issues with underground infrastructure.
5. Participate in the creation of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Report and submit according to identified process and verification requirements.
6. Create and maintain the Asset Management Plan for the gas utility.
7. Compile asset inventory, asset condition assessment information, financials, and perform gap analysis to direct resources into priority areas.
8. Utilize asset condition information to identify priority projects for inclusion in the Capital Plan.
9. . Produce procurement documents in accordance with Utilities Kingston purchasing policy.
10. 5. Provide Contract administration oversight, including payments and budget management throughout the life of a capital project.
11. Develop capital plans and budgets for work plans and ensure designed work is consistent with identified budget.
12. Participate in joint project planning and coordination with other utility projects.
13. Perform project management duties and provide public information and communications as required.
14. Actively participate in the Canadian Gas Association’s Asset Management task force.
