The Salvation Army in Port Lincoln is looking for a friendly and committed Cleaning Assistant to provide operational support through maintaining the church and welfare facilities to a standard which will provide a positive and welcoming experience for clients, workers and visitors and to develop and update facilities under direction of the the Corps Officer to create a safe, tidy and aesthetically pleasing environment.
The volunteer role is ideal for someone who loves to see a sparkling, safe and healthy work environment whilst keen to be a part of a team making a real difference to our community. This role will provide skill development, build self-confidence and experience in a supportive work environment, whilst helping us bring HOPE where it’s needed most.
As directed by the Corps Officer, a typical day for our Cleaning Assistant will include general cleaning activities to a standard that will provide a welcoming experience for staff, clients and visitors.
You will be responsible for floor cleaning, vacuuming, mopping, dusting,
tidying up, re-stocking supplies, removing rubbish, moving chairs and tables, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment and ensuring hazards are identified and controlled. A reasonable level of fitness is required to perform the inherent requirements of this role.
You will have an understanding of appropriate use of PPE, actively use appropriate PPE at all times when completing activities and will monitor the condition of PPE, addressing any issues with the Manager to ensure any hazards are controlled until rectified completing any hazard, incident and accident form if required in a timely manner.

Mandatory Requirements Of The Role

  • Complete The Salvation Army’s (TSA) mission volunteer induction, training and registration process.
  • Current Criminal History Check (Police Check) and WWCC are required for the role. TSA is a Child Safe organisation.

Roster & Time Commitment

  • 15 hours per week, negotiable

Key responsibilities:

  • Bring your ‘pride of place’ and attention to detail to general cleaning activities, providing a welcoming experience for clients, visitors and co-workers.
  • Using well-honed organisational skills, re-stock cleaning supplies and consumables.
  • Manage rubbish removal by emptying bins and ensuring recycling is ready for collection.
  • Maintain a routine for more occasional ‘deeper cleaning’ tasks, instructing co-workers on how to prepare and assist with access (eg remove items from desks, floor area or windows).

Qualifications and skills (desired/required):

  • Experience in cleaning highly regarded, or a keen desire to learn
  • A good understanding of the safe and effective use of cleaning products and equipment
  • Good communication skills
