Under the guidance of a team leader, volunteer Doorways Hub Team Members play an important role, in providing hospitality services for those experiencing short-term or long-term vulnerability whilst accessing the facilities support services. Through their non-judgemental and friendly practical service, Doorways Hub Team Members assist in providing a space where people feel safe, supported and connected allowing service providers to focus their attention on connecting with participants.

Key responsibilities

  • Activity Preparation: Prepare dining room, meal items and refreshments. This includes set-up of the dining area, preparation of food and service, assisting those who bring their own meal in as needed and clean up for two meal sessions a day.
  • During activity: With the support and guidance of the Team members, assist in the facilitation of the activities, ensuring a supportive and caring environment for all participants.
  • Facilities: Assist with orientating community members to the shower and toilet facilities and provide support with towels and hygiene products where required.
  • Post activity: Assist with the packing away of meal items, some furniture and equipment and kitchen clean up.

Qualifications and skills (desired/required)

  • Experience in relevant field (hospitality/administration) highly desired but not essential.
  • First Aid certificate highly desired

  • As this role may encounter under-18 year olds, a Working With Children/Vulnerable People Check is required – This may be facilitated by Katherine Salvos.

Training Requirements

To successfully undertake this role, the following training is required:

  • Category A training: Foundational training which includes an introduction to The Salvation Army, code of conduct training, work-safe and child-safe practices.

Work Health and Safety (WHS) considerations

We take Work Health Safety and well-being seriously at The Salvation Army. We want to ensure volunteers are fully informed and aware of key safety considerations. For this role, key considerations include (but not limited to):

  • As this role interacts with people experiencing vulnerability, training will be provided.

Other WHS considerations will be covered during the induction.

Time Required & Commitment

  • As agreed with manager
  • Fixed roster with flexible times as agreed
  • Hub rostered hours:
  • 7.15am – 10.30am – Community Breakfast Service 8.30am
  • 10.30am – 12.00pm - Community Lunch Service 11.00am
  • 2.30pm – 3.30pm – Community Laundry Service
