THE ROLE

GM Motorsports is looking for outstanding talent with the passion to bring performance to the racetrack every week. Continuing our winning tradition in racing requires that we never lose focus on innovation and being bold in our application of engineering and technology to build triumphant race cars. GM Motorsports is focused on the concept of One Team, where the technology and people that build GM’s award-winning cars on the road work alongside the GM Motorsports team to win on the racetrack. We are looking for people who have a passion for motorsports and enjoy solving complex problems in a very competitive environment.
GM Motorsports is investing in the application of virtual development and simulation to optimize the performance of our cars during race events. In addition to developing advanced tire model simulation, including thermal and wear modeling, the Vehicle Performance Tech Specialist will be investigating and optimizing the system level performance of the complete race vehicle. This activity will include working with the virtual vehicle dynamics, performance, and simulation engineers to ensure that the physical systems and tires are properly modeled and integrated to accurately predict the full system performance of the race car. Having experience leading race teams and managing race cars and events is desired. Proven understanding of the racetracks and the performance targets required of winning race cars is critical. The Vehicle Performance Tech Specialist will contribute to the virtual tools, develop in the test labs and participate with the teams at the racetrack. You will use and participate in the development of full vehicle simulation and advanced tire models. Experience with numerical analysis and programming is helpful as well as experience in a wide variety of multi-physics simulation. This activity includes problem solving without support. This role requires a deep understanding of engineering concepts, helps set direction, and independently makes decisions based on general practices and procedures. Strong project planning skills are critical.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Play a key role in developing accurate tire models in support of full vehicle simulation models. Develop methods to use tire models and simulation models to optimize the performance of the race cars
  • Play a leading role between GM Motorsports Tire Modeling group and the racetrack
  • Develop vehicle sub-system models and validate on test rigs, including hardware in the loop and driver in the loop rigs
  • Provide direction and actionable data to GM race teams to improve performance
