WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU BRING?

  • Completion of a post-secondary university degree in a related discipline (Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent of B.Sc.
  • Preferred to have directly related engineering experience working with transit vehicles.
  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario or Eligible to obtain a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario (PEO) within 4 years.
  • Sound knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, methods and practices with specific knowledge in the areas of drafting, tolerances, dimensioning, hydraulics, pneumatics, metallurgy, welding, stress analysis and mechanical analysis
  • Basic understanding of electrical/electronic technology
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Sound judgement supported by well-developed technical, analytical, problem-solving and technical writing skills
  • Proficient in the use of computers with good working knowledge of applications related to the work, such as CADD, Excel, Power Point, database, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing a variety of mechanical engineering duties related to the maintenance of TTC’s revenue and non-revenue subway and SRT vehicles and associated mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, structural, and air conditioning equipment
  • Preparing complete technical specifications, reports and detailed design drawings relating to mechanical components of non-revenue and revenue subway and SRT vehicles and associated equipment
  • Investigating, diagnosing, and performing failure analyses of complex mechanical systems and issues
  • Compile cost and quantity estimates for specific projects, programs and budget purposes; assist with the preparation of budgets/cash flows and monitor where necessary to meet project and departmental goals and objectives.
  • Initiate relevant procurement process, review technical proposals and quotations from consultants for compliance with branch requirements, evaluate tenders, recommend for award and monitor progress.
  • Provide design review expertise of submissions received from the EC&E Group at various stages of design and provide comments concerning compliance with Subway Operations Branch requirements.
