Description:

Thrive Oldham are recruiting for a Vehicle Technichian in the Leicestershire area
Driving is not a core function, but driving is part of the job to road test vehicles after work is complete.
37 hours a week Monday to Friday
To maintain the council’s fleet of vehicles, plant and equipment to include inspection, servicing, test preparation, fault diagnosis and repair.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS OR STATUS

MOT Tester Certificate

TRAINING, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

High level of communication and listening skills sufficient to deal with customers either face to face or on the telephone
Health & safety training relevant to working in a vehicle maintenance workshop environment
Ability to use Workshop ICT , vehicle diagnostic, Electronic job cards.
Ability to trace, diagnose and repair vehicles, plant and equipment faults, to include the identification of parts and equipment required
Ability to accurately record work done and complete job sheets accurately
Ability to carry out minor repairs safely using appropriate welding equipment and techniques

KNOWLEDGE AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

At least one of the following:
Successful completion of a recognised industry apprenticeship such as an Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) approved apprenticeship
and/or
Level 3 qualification in light/heavy vehicle or plant engineering (City & Guilds Part II, BTEC National, ONC/D or similar)
Certificate in welding competence
Literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to perform the job tasks
Full current driving licence
Ability to drive all vehicle and plant types up to 32T GVM (Class C LGV licence)
Knowledgeable in the use of the appropriate trade tools and methods and how to apply these in a safe way

EXPERIENCE

Experience of working in a large diverse transport maintenance facility
Experience of servicing vehicles, plant and equipment to include fault diagnostics, repair and maintenance
Other Conditions.
Must wear an ID badge and uniform and safety equipment as required
Willing and able to keep up-to-date with legislation/ guidelines/ new/ best techniques/ technology as they change or study for/ obtain/ train for further skills and qualifications needed for the role.
Works out of normal working hours, when required
Willing to put the council’s environmental management policies into practice
Willing to travel to work in other locations of the city, when required
Sufficient level of physically fitness to carry out the requirements of the role (the role will require some lifting, stretching, bending, crouching and working in confined areas)
Willing and able to mentor an apprentice

Responsibilities:

KEY CONTACTS & PURPOSE:

Drivers of vehicles and users of equipment and plant when discussing defect reports and identified repairs. Interprets information received, gives advice on actions to be taken and provides feedback on the work completed
Quality Controller and Team Leader - Accepts tasks, provide feedback on the progress of tasks and completion of repairs. Seeks advice and guidance, reports complex issues and has discussions about parts required
Other vehicle Technicians - to give and receive advice on vehicle repairs and maintenance, provide updates on work when a job is handed over
Vehicle manufacturers - to seek advice on complex repairs and maintenance, especially related to specialist vehicles

MAIN DUTIES/KEY TASKS

Carries out vehicle / plant / equipment inspection, servicing, test preparation, fault diagnostics, maintenance and repair
Completes all written or computerised vehicle and job sheet records on completion of work. This is to include a description of work carried out, parts used and the time taken to complete the work.
Interprets information received from drivers and users of plant and equipment, gives advice on actions to be taken and provides feedback on the work completed
Miscellaneous tasks associated with the role.

RESPONSIBILITIES & OBJECTIVES:

Removes all waste and redundant parts for disposal or recycling, minimises disruption, mess and dirt when working to support the maintenance of a safe workshop working environment.
Manages own workload to meet customer service standards, including, but not exclusively, repair priorities
Works as part of a team to provide a high quality and efficient vehicle maintenance service to all customers
Undertakes all works in accordance with the council’s agreed health & safety policies and procedures and current building and industry regulations
Follows, implements and promotes the council’s policies and procedures relating to all areas of employment and service delivery
Able to recognise and deal with discrimination in its many forms and willing to actively put the council’s equality policies into practice
Ensures all work is carried out in the most efficient and effective manner e.g. by utilising new technology and equipment
Continues to keep up to date with vehicle maintenance developments, developing skills and sharing knowledge with others
