Standard BioTools is looking for a Verification & Validation Engineer who, as a part of the Systems Integration team, will play an essential role in testing, developing, evaluating, and troubleshooting of new commercial mass cytometry systems. You will develop and manage requirements of various modules and assemblies, and produce design outputs. You are passionate about making systems work reliably, safely, and efficiently!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Characterize module and system behaviour
  • Create test plans, test setups, conduct verification and validation testing
  • Develop, evaluate, and troubleshoot electronics and mechanics of modules involving vacuum systems, inductively coupled plasma, thermal management, and/or gas controls
  • Analyze system performance and logs to identify root cause of failures
  • Communicate findings to team via presentations and documented test reports
  • Collaborate with engineers & scientists to develop and improve designs to meet system and subsystem requirements
  • Participate in design review meetings
  • Assist in transfer of products to manufacturing

Education and Experience

  • Masters’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics
  • 5-8 years working experience in product development roles
  • Substantial hands-on experience in hardware testing, reliability testing, debugging, and troubleshooting electronics and mechanics
  • Practical and/or theoretical experience with EMI/EMC, inductively coupled plasma, vacuum pumps, vacuum chambers, flow controllers, pressure sensors, valves, actuators
  • Continuous improvement mindset

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Highly self-motivated and independent critical thinker
  • Fast learner with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team including mechanical, electrical, optical and software engineers as well as research scientists in instrumentation, chemistry, and biology
  • As a bonus, you have expertise in one of the following areas: mass spectrometry, ion optics, optics, vacuum systems, or gas dynamics
