About This Opportunity
The Nurse Coordinator is responsible for providing high level support and assistance to staff within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). You will also assist with undergraduate teaching of veterinary and veterinary technology students in a clinical environment through the coordination of day-to-day activities and mentoring/supervision of VTH staff.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support and mentor veterinary technicians, nurses, and nurse interns, providing skilful and professional guidance.
- Coordinate daily activities within the VTH, ensuring efficient operation of specific services or areas.
- Maintain high standards of patient care in ICU, surgery, isolation, and hospital wards.
- Confidently liaise with veterinarians, specialists, and support staff regarding patient treatment and care.
- Communicate effectively with VTH coordinators, staff, and students to ensure smooth operations.
- Provide clinical training support for veterinary and veterinary technology students.
- Care for and maintain technical and specialized equipment according to SOPs.
- Use practice management software for administration, business management, and inventory control.
- Assist with radiography, CT, scintigraphy, MRI procedures, and perform diagnostic clinical pathology techniques.
- Deliver high-quality customer service and administrative support to clinic clients, staff, and external clients.
This is a full-time (100%), continuing position.
At HEW level 5, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $78,944.40 - $87,750.37, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $92,364.95 - $102,667.93 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.
As a 24-hour operation, your take-home salary will be dependent on your specific roster, including loadings of 50% for weekend shifts, 25% for night shifts, and 15% for afternoon shifts. Afternoon shifts are shifts commencing at or after midday and finishing at or before midnight, Night Shift are shifts extending beyond midnight and finishing at or before 6AM. About You
- Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing and/or Bachelor of Applied Science (Veterinary Technology) and/or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience working as a senior technician within the VTH, or another large clinic.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver and maintain high standards of professional veterinary nursing in all areas of nursing.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and mentor staff.
- Be able to work independently within their service and have the proven ability to establish effective working relationships within a team.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexibly with the use of initiative and autonomy.
- Good written and oral communication skills, including high level organisational skills and demonstrated ability to use these skills in managing professional & operational relationships with colleagues, clients and students.
- Knowledge of ethical requirements, relevant policies and procedures, including workplace health and safety, employment equity and anti-discrimination.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and excellence in the field of veterinary technology and nursing.
- Interest in the clinical teaching of veterinary and veterinary technology professionals in training.
- Possess or be able to apply for a radiation license.
