Education System Design and Schedule Design:

  • Design and implement integrated education programs into an evolving master schedule system to optimize frequency, utilization, and quality.
  • Deliver Scheduling 101 class to key users when required, including developing this into a D2L Brightspace course for live in-person, live online, and asynchronous distance classes.
  • Work with Operations team to ensure program scheduling for all campuses and programs is maintained on a multi-year basis.
  • Leverage D2L Brightspace and other vendor tools to enhance student education, instructional staff delivery capabilities and curriculum development efforts.
  • Work with the executives when exploring and integrating the academic operations of strategic acquisitions into internal divisions

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure policies and operational delivery meet or exceed the requirements and expectations of educational and regulatory partners.
  • Analyze College processes and initiate continuous improvement projects, seeking opportunities to improve efficiencies and productivity.
  • Research academic best practices and work with management team to implement improvements.
  • Ensure course materials and program delivery meets or exceeds both federal and provincial Accessibility standards

Responsibilities:

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Vice President, Academic Services is responsible for creating and sustaining an environment of academic and professional excellence for students and faculty. The role is responsible for leading the Academic Services team to deliver quality curriculum that supports our faculty in creating an effective and engaging learning experience.
As a key member of the executive team, the Vice President, Academic Services, is responsible for the strategic establishment, development, administration and maintenance of instructional programs, policies, educational outcomes, faculty development and quality standards.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

Leadership and Vision:

  • Act as the champion of education quality for students and faculty.
  • Lead the Academic Services team to support business objectives and ensure that the Academic Services team is appropriately supporting faculty and the operations team.
  • Develop, communicate, and maintain the strategic plan for curriculum and programs.
  • Develop, communicate, and maintain an academic vision for triOS College, Eastern College, Online Programs, Corporate Training Programs, and Public-Private Partnerships Programs.
  • Oversee the creation of program content and instructional supports for Instructor-led, remote learning, hybrid, and online program offerings.
  • Provide leadership and direction to Project Managers to meet deadlines.
  • Communicate program changes, schedule changes, and program policy to the organization.

Curriculum Development and Digital Learning:

  • Working closely with the Director, Academic Development and Instructional Design, and Digital Learning Manager, ensure an efficient and effective curriculum development and update process is executed.
  • Develop and implement standards for curriculum and digital learning content creation for multiple course delivery models: in-persons classes, online synchronous classes, online asynchronous learning and blended delivery.
  • Oversee and ensure appropriate resource and budget allocation for curriculum development projects.

Program Management:

  • Develop and manage annual curriculum and program development budget.
  • Provide leadership, strategic direction, and support of team conducting market research for programs and curriculum.
  • Ensure systematic review of programs to ensure quality and current course content.
  • Build and communicate Product Road Map, Program Submission Grid, and Program Launch Plans.
  • Develop Program Advisory Committee (PAC) plans; coordinate and execute the implementation of effective PAC meetings on a scheduled basis.

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure policies and operational delivery meet or exceed the requirements and expectations of educational and regulatory partners.
  • Analyze College processes and initiate continuous improvement projects, seeking opportunities to improve efficiencies and productivity.
  • Research academic best practices and work with management team to implement improvements.
  • Ensure course materials and program delivery meets or exceeds both federal and provincial Accessibility standards.

Student Satisfaction:

  • Review course and program surveys to review course-level, program improvements and enhancements to maintain quality of programs and delivery.
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for academic satisfaction comparison amongst campuses and programs.
  • Ensure learning tools are built to support student and instructor experience with D2L Brightspace and other tools used in the delivery of learning.
  • Conduct focus groups with students.

Compliance with Regulations and Program Accreditation Criteria:

  • Proactively manage relationships with Regulatory and Accreditation Partners.
  • Responsible for overseeing the submission of new Programs and required program renewals for Provincial ministry approval.
  • Responsible for overseeing the submission of program changes, revisions, and upgrades with Provincial regulators.
  • Coordinate general compliance of the Colleges’ educational practices with Provincial regulators and third-party accrediting bodies.
  • Oversee accreditation efforts and the preparation of reports to various accrediting agencies.
  • Coordinate with Admissions to set and maintain admission standard.

Faculty and Staff Development:

  • Support the Academic Planning Manager in the leadership of Program Coordinators and Faculty Heads.
  • Develop training plans for on-boarding new faculty with People & Culture.
  • Participate in Instructor Advisory Council meetings and implement feedback for improvements as required.
  • Review and Implement Professional Development library of courses for faculty.
  • Research and develop or acquire processes and technology to improve the teaching and learning processes of faculty and students.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train direct reports.
  • Support select Faculty Heads and Program Coordinators from existing and new Instructors or outside experts for all programs.
  • Conduct performance management discussions with direct reports.

Community Responsibilities:

  • Develop relationships with education institutions for the purpose of articulation agreements.
  • Elevate the visibility and image of the College in the community through participation in community and networking events.
  • Engage in business development with employers and other industry associations to gain feedback on hiring and employment trends.
  • Enhance internship opportunities within the community by maintaining a quality educational presence.

Reporting:

  • Attend all scheduled executive team meetings.
  • Provide periodic reports, budgets and performance reviews to President as required.
  • Update, review and report on Academic KPIs on a regular basis.

Vendor Management:

  • Proactively manage vendor relationships for curriculum, books, student, and instructor resource tools.
  • Negotiate purchase agreements with book and learning supplies vendors.
  • Work with vendors to ensure competitive costs for books and supplies are reviewed.
  • Work with vendors to understand education sector trends, best practices, and growth opportunities.
