What you will do:
As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will report directly to the SVP, General Counsel and play a pivotal role managing commercial legal matters, commercial litigation and overseeing various areas of law. You will provide guidance, assistance and legal advice to the company’s business and functional units in their day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft and negotiate commercial contracts to achieve the desired business results and most-advantageous contractual terms. Participate in various corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and other initiatives.
  • Oversee Privacy Law, Labour & Employment Law and Intellectual Property Law.
  • Monitor proposed legislation in all jurisdictions in which the Company operates to provide proactive advice regarding the Company’s obligations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor degree.
  • Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
  • 10 years’ experience practicing law at a law firm or corporate/governmental in-house legal department.
  • Exceptional analytical, leadership, problem solving, relationship building, negotiating, communication and project/people management skills.
  • Being a generalist, able to multitask and support all areas of a diverse, entrepreneurial and publicly traded company.
  • Strong understanding of corporate-commercial law.
  • Basic understanding of Privacy Law, Labour & Employment Law, Intellectual Property Law and commercial litigation.
  • Be self-motivated and able to work independently and in teams.
  • Demonstrated experience and success in prioritizing and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience working with the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, OneNote and Teams).
