Vice President, Patient Access & Public Affairs

As a Member of the Novo Nordisk Canada (NNCI) Executive Team (ET) the Vice President Patient Access and Public affairs has supervisory responsibility for Patient Access and Public Affairs executives and leaders. This strategic function will leverage Market Access and Public Affairs (MAPA) to drive NNCI’s ability to increase sales, market share and overall profitability, as well as optimal patient access to NNCI products. This position sets the market access strategies and provides national leadership related to communicating the value of all Novo Nordisk products to a range of customers (private health insurers, public health plans, government, etc.) who influence uptake in the marketplace. The VP directs how we engage and educate policy makers on the significance of the disease states that our patients face and the business complexities that NNCI navigates as the market evolves.
The Vice President partners and works in close collaboration with Sales, Marketing, Medical, and Human Resources, as well as Global and Region North America cross-functional functions. External relationships include key executives at Private Health Insurance Organizations, PBMs, Benefit Advisor Organizations, Institutional Organizations, Health Technology Agencies, Ministries, and Government Personnel, and with key associations and vendors.
Relationships with foundations include Novo Nordisk Foundation and World Diabetes Foundation
Qualifications
- An advanced degree in science and/or business. Meaningful exposure to statistical and mathematical modelling preferred.
- Demonstrated success at the executive leadership level.
- Extensive experience managing managers.
- Meaningful experience at managing successfully through difficult problems.
- Cross-functional experience at both global and affiliate level is preferred
- At least 15 years of progressive pharmaceutical/healthcare experience required with a strong knowledge of the payer and policy environment.
- Strong background in relationship management; especially with payers and policymaker
Responsibilities:
Strategic Business Development & Alignment
- Participates as an active member of the Executive Team in setting and achieving strategic goals of the company.
- Makes important contributions as part of the senior leadership team, working well with colleagues and setting an example for the organization as a whole.
- Builds strong relationships with external customers to enhance the Novo Nordisk image in the marketplace.
Patient Access
- Creates a clear and concise vision that aligns with relevant strategies across the NNCI portfolio
- Oversees the development, effective execution and ongoing monitoring of all Patient Access business plans and strategies
- Develops strategies and relationships that support market growth opportunities for current and new products.
- Understands the impact that the changing healthcare market will have on NNCI products and effectively conveys implications that NNCI products may have on the wider healthcare market.
- Explores and evaluates potential opportunities in all emerging customer marketplaces.
Health Economics and Outcomes Research
- Responsible for establishing the value of NNCI products through health economics and for generating supportive data and evidence through outcomes research.
- Responsible for submissions to Health Technology Agencies.
Pricing and Contracting
- Responsible for contracting and pricing strategies, tactics, and initiatives to maximize profitability goals, and increase market share and productivity and measurable impact and value to the organization.
Field Patient Access
- Oversees the development, effective execution, and ongoing monitoring of all Patient Access field activities.
- Actively participates in high stakes negotiations.
Public Affairs and Patient Relations
- Responsible for NNCI being a solution-oriented partner to patients and policymakers in the joint ambition to raise the standards of care in our therapy areas and help solve society’s fundamental challenges.
- This includes Cities Changing Diabetes, Circular for Zero, sustainability, patient relations, Take Action.
Grants, Donations, and Sponsorships
- Responsible for NNCI grants, donations and sponsorships
Compassionate Care
- Responsible for NNCI compassionate care programs
Fiscal
- Develops and monitors performance against budgets.
- Reviews and audits expense reports.
- Establishes, oversees implementation, and monitors adherence to administrative policies and procedures.
- Evaluates appropriate use of resources to ensure attainment of NNCI profitability goals.
Leadership, Management & Development of People
- Leads, defines vision, sets strategy for department, and ensures effective people management, including development goals and annual goals and measurements that are consistent with priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and measurements process
- Builds an effective leadership team ensuring that each individual in a leadership role embraces the Novo Nordisk Way and instills a winning culture within the team
- Ensures that IDP are completed and include completed learning and aspirations for all employees to enable achievement of goals, and career development
- Through leadership and coaching demonstrates the Novo Nordisk Way and imbeds the NN Way of leadership and 4 leadership themes into the Units work and plans.
